Patent number: 9694947Abstract: Disclosed is a metal bottle seal that is disposed on the curl of the metal bottle. The bottle seal may be held in place by crimping of the curl. In addition, adhesive may be used to hold the bottle seal on the curl. Adhesives can be used that fill discontinuities that may exist in the curl as a result of substantial drawing and ironing of the metal. Further, the metal bottle seal can be made of a material or laminated with a material that is soft enough to fill the discontinuities. The seal can be preformed as a continuous annulus for easy application to the top of the metal bottle. The metal bottle seal can also be used in conjunction with a cap seal to ensure an adequate and reliable seal.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 2016Date of Patent: July 4, 2017Assignee: STOLLE MACHINERY COMPANY, LLCInventors: Christopher J. Olson, Edmund Gillest

Publication number: 20160331523Abstract: In one representative embodiment, an implantable prosthetic device comprises a spacer body portion configured to be disposed between native leaflets of a heart, and an anchor portion configured to secure the native leaflets against the spacer body portion, wherein the prosthetic device is movable between a compressed configuration, in which the spacer body portion is radially compressed and is axially spaced relative to the anchor portion, and an expanded configuration, in which the spacer body portion expands radially outwardly relative to the compressed configuration and overlaps at least a portion of the anchor portion.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 13, 2016Publication date: November 17, 2016Applicant: Edwards Lifesciences CorporationInventors: Mark Chau, David M. Publication number: 20160228240Abstract: Disclosed herein are representative embodiments of methods, apparatus, and systems used to deliver a prosthetic heart valve to a deficient valve. In one embodiment, for instance, a support structure and an expandable prosthetic valve are advanced through the aortic arch of a patient using a delivery system. The support structure is delivered to a position on or adjacent to the surface of the outflow side of the aortic valve (the support structure defining a support-structure interior). The expandable prosthetic valve is delivered into the aortic valve and into the support-structure interior. The expandable prosthetic heart valve is expanded while the expandable prosthetic heart valve is in the support-structure interior and while the support structure is at the position on or adjacent to the surface of the outflow side of the aortic valve, thereby causing one or more native leaflets of the aortic valve to be frictionally secured between the support structure and the expanded prosthetic heart valve.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 15, 2016Publication date: August 11, 2016Inventors: Christopher J. Olson, Glen Thomas Rabito, Dustin P. Armer, Minh T. Ma, Devin H. Marr, Cheng-Tung Huang, Hiroshi Okabe, Kevin M. Stewart, Alison S. Curtis, Philip P. Corso, JR.

Publication number: 20160166384Abstract: A medical device configured for placement in a blood vessel, in which an elastic tube extends between first and second expandable anchoring stents. The elastic tube is constructed of a resilient material that deflects outward in response to increased blood pressure of a heart beat and that moves back inward as the blood pressure drops, thereby aiding the heart's pumping action.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 22, 2016Publication date: June 16, 2016Applicant: Edwards Lifesciences CorporationInventors: Christopher J. Patent number: 8807325Abstract: Apparatus and method for forming (e.g. die necking) open ends of open-ended metal container bodies. An exemplary embodiment provides a number of movable holders for container bodies that move the container bodies along a path extending through the apparatus. A motor advances the holders and container bodies along the path in steps with pauses between each step. Each step advances one or more container bodies (and preferably two or more). One or more groups of work stations positioned adjacent to the path provides tool sets for carrying out a forming operation on one (and preferably two or more) container bodies simultaneously. Individual container bodies, or more preferably groups of two or more, are subjected to one or more forming operations during passage along the path (preferably the periphery of one or more star wheels).Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 2011Date of Patent: August 19, 2014Assignee: Crown Packaging Technology, Inc.Inventors: Christopher J. Olson, Harold Cook, Jr., Michael Atkinson, Randy Worwag, Peter Kubisa, Chris Reynolds, Larry Patchen

Patent number: 7073365Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for forming metal containers. The method involves introducing a knockout element (110) into the container body through the open end, providing a forming die shaped to reduce the diameter of the sidewall of the container body (100) when the open end of the container body (106) is forced therein to produce a neck portion of reduced diameter on the container body, driving the open end of the container body into the forming die (108), retracting the knockout element through the neck portion as the neck portion is formed, and removing the container body (106) from the forming die (108) and knockout element (110). In the invention, the driving of the open end of the container body into the forming die and/or the movements of the knockout element are carried out under computer numerical control, preferably employing linear motor drives, thereby enabling the driving or movement to be optimized for the container body and the neck portion formed thereon.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 2003Date of Patent: July 11, 2006Assignee: Novelis, Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey Edward Geho, Harold Cook, Jr., Christopher J. Patent number: 6817819Abstract: The disclosed invention describes a container end that can be easily opened and does not rely on a conventional metal tab, riveted onto the end, thereby avoiding the problems and the cost associated with such a tab. The invention utilizes a traditional container end shell with a separate and distinct piece that is formed independently and is inserted into a countersink which is placed on the outer surface of the container end shell. The removal of this separate piece exerts a force or causes a change in the properties of the container wall in the countersink area, initiating and proliferating a discontinuity in the container wall, thereby creating an opening in the container. This change in the properties of the container wall can be mechanical, chemical, thermal or any other modality, which has the ability to influence the integrity of the container wall.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2002Date of Patent: November 16, 2004Assignee: Omnitech International, Inc.Inventors: Christopher J. Olson, Harold Cook, Jr.
