  • Patent number: 7431916
Abstract: A method of administering a metered dry powder combined dose of finely divided dry medication powders is disclosed, wherein said method comprises providing a relative motion between a nozzle of a dry powder inhaler and a dose bed carrying said combined dose of finely divided dry medication powder intended for delivery by the dry powder inhaler, the combined dose comprises metered quantities of at least two medicaments separately deposited on the dose bed, the relative motion causing the nozzle to pass over the combined dose for a simultaneous or sequential delivery of the medicaments during the course of a single suction of air.

  • Publication number: 20080202630
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for exact metering and volumetric filling of dry powder medicament doses into preformed containers, which are adapted for administration by a dry powder inhaler. The filling apparatus includes at least a bulk powder source, a feeding chamber, and a receptacle providing the volume for a specified load mass of dry powder. The bulk powder source releases a portion of powder discontinuously to the feeding chamber, but is disconnected from the feeding chamber and receptacle during the filling operation. The filling apparatus further presents a plane surface in contact with the movable feeding chamber and provides a hard-wearing, low friction coating for reducing dynamic friction and powder retention.

  • Publication number: 20080023098
Abstract: The invention discloses a method and a tool for exact metering and volumetric filling of finely divided dry powder medicament doses into preformed containers, whereby the doses and containers are adapted for administration by inhalation using a dry powder inhaler (DPI). A filling tool illustrating the invention includes at least one receptacle (10). The shape and size of a receptacle may vary depending on the size and mass of the powder load to be metered. A stretched woven filter (106) is positioned between the second opening of the receptacle (10) and a suction nozzle (13), using flexible seals at joints to stop air and powder leakage. The shape may be circular or elliptical, the wideness and depth, i.e. the volume, is adapted to the intended load and the method of filling and unloading.

  • Publication number: 20050279356
Abstract: A medicament container for carrying a metered, finely divided, dry powder medication dose is disclosed. The medicament container, which is intended for administration by a dry powder inhaler device, constitutes a pod presents a bottom surface acting as a dose bed adapted for receiving a metered medication dose. The metered dose, carried by the pod, is protected from foreign matter, particularly moisture, after a sealing of the pod with a high barrier seal foil, which transforms the pod into a high barrier container. Furthermore the pod is formed such that the pod sealing foil can be slit open from a point of penetration at a first pod end to a point of exit at a second pod end by a cutter set in motion relative to the pod.

  • Publication number: 20050211244
Abstract: A dry powder medicament preparation is disclosed. Also methods of forming and loading metered doses of the preparation into dose containers intended for insertion into a dry powder inhaler are disclosed. The preparation is adapted for a dose forming process, which may be based on volumetric filling or electro-dynamic deposition of the powder particles, such that a metered dose of the preparation is characterized by having at least one load of held-together particles joined in a macrostructure of predefined dimensions and presenting an intended mechanical strength. The pharmacologically active ingredient presents at least 50% by mass of particles in a typical aerodynamic diameter range from 1 to 5 ?m. Furthermore, a dose thus formed is then loaded into a high barrier container.

  • Publication number: 20050063911
Abstract: The present invention discloses pharmaceutical dry powder combined doses for the administration by inhalation of metered dry powder combined doses of finely divided dry medication powders. Formoterol and an anticholinergic agent are selected medicaments for forming the combined doses. Metered dry powder medicinal combined doses comprising separately metered deposits of medicinally suitable quantities of each of the selected medicaments are prepared, in which the sum of the metered deposits constitutes the metered quantities of powder of the combined doses and the medicinal combined doses are introduced into an adapted inhaler device for a generally simultaneous or sequential delivery of the medicinal combined doses during the course of a single inhalation by a user, such that each one of the delivered medicinal combined doses is composed of a high proportion of de-aggregated fine particles of the selected medicament or medicaments, whereby a desired therapeutic or treating effect to the user is achieved.

  • Publication number: 20040258625
Abstract: A method as well as a therapeutic metered combined dose are disclosed for a combined administration of medicinal dry powders. A metered medicinal dry powder combined dosage comprising at least two medicaments of separate dry powder formulations is prepared, whereby the metered powder quantity per medicament is deposited in a dose forming step creating the medicinal combined dose. The deposits of the at least two medicaments are suitably kept separated from each other, such that the medicaments cannot detrimentally interact after forming of the combined dose, and the medicinal combined dose is introduced into an inhaler device for a delivery of the powder dose during the course of a single inhalation.
