  • Patent number: 7574870
Abstract: Various embodiments of air conditioning systems are disclosed. The systems may include an air conditioner whose energy source is provided by heating of a first fluid. The first fluid may be in a liquid state contained in a reservoir hydraulically connected to a first chamber. The first chamber may be configured to receive thermal energy utilized to convert the first fluid into a vapor. The system may also include a second chamber hydraulically connected to the first chamber to receive the vaporized fluid from the first chamber. The second chamber may be configured to condense the vaporized first fluid, causing depressurization in the second chamber. The system may be configured such that the depressurization of the second chamber may drive an external fluid through an expanding valve in addition to an energy converter (e.g. Turbine Generator) overall able to convert the first fluid condensing energy into cooling and mechanical or electrical energy.

  • Patent number: 7430865
Abstract: A closed loop vapor cycle generated by a special device formed by heat transfer and a vapor expander it is utilized to convert waste heat from conventional power systems into additional thermodynamic work, thereby improving the overall power system efficiency. Superheated vapor (i.e. steam) is instantaneously produced inside special energy transfer apparatus where waste heat is converted into fluid energy with desired thermodynamic properties. The superheated vapor is then converted into mechanical energy through special work-producing units (expanders), thereby returning a significant fraction of the energy contained in the waste heat to the power system. When the power system under consideration is an internal combustion engine the energy contained in the exhaust gases (waste heat) is transferred back to the engine through one or more expanders directly or indirectly coupled with the engine load.

  • Publication number: 20080034730
Abstract: This invention describes a miniaturized hybrid diesel-electric engine formed by a closed-loop system powered by plasma-aided combustion of JP-8 fuel (or other hydrocarbon fuels) working in tandem with a vapor cycle utilizing miniaturized expanders and condensers. The output of this engine is electric power and mechanical work. Water, or organic fluids, heated by the combustion product developed inside a special burner, undergoes an explosive, quasi-supersonic conversion to steam. This steam drives a high-speed turbine connected together with a gas turbine outputting shaft work. This work output is utilized to power internal subsystems, cool down the miniaturized condensers, and to produce torque and electric power. The dimensions of this miniaturized hybrid-engine are so compact that it can fit inside the battery compartment of most applications requiring high-density miniaturized power sources.

Abstract: Various embodiments of a fluid displacement system are disclosed. The system may include a reservoir containing a fluid in a liquid state and a first chamber hydraulically connected to the reservoir to receive the fluid from the reservoir. The first chamber may be configured to receive solar energy and configured to convert the received solar energy to vaporize the fluid. The system may also include a second chamber hydraulically connected to the first chamber to receive the vaporized fluid from the first chamber. The second chamber may be configured to condense the vaporized fluid, causing depressurization in the second chamber. The system may also include a hydraulic connection between the second chamber and a source of fluid to be displaced. The system may be configured such that the depressurization of the second chamber may cause fluid in the source of fluid to be displaced through the hydraulic connection.

  • Publication number: 20030179844
Abstract: This invention describes an innovative miniaturized decay-heat engine formed by a closed-loop system powered by the spontaneous decay of radioisotopes emitting alpha particles. Said alpha particles are emitted inside a sealed and reinforced capsule or rod whose surfaces reach a relatively high temperature as a result of the capture of the alpha particles in the inner shell of said capsule. Radiation shielding is not a significant problem since alpha radiation is stopped by the materials encasing the capsule. The cladding material covering the alpha capsule or rod acts as the thermal interface and the radiation shield at the same time. This invention provides a power source for time duration significantly longer than any power system powered by fossil fuels with minimum weight. The unit is assembled in an ultra-compact package providing power from a few months to several years without need for refueling.

  • Publication number: 20030066291
Abstract: Robotic, and Exoskeletal designs and applications may require a direct conversion of power in the form of electrical, hydraulic, or mechanical actuation. By utilizing actuators powered by a miniaturized power source located inside the actuator the normally cumbersome external systems for power generation and distribution are eliminated. In this invention a piston-cylinder assembly integrated concentrically inside the core of a special burner provides a controlled power-stroke to be utilized as the actuator for robotic and similarly actuated structures. Each actuator has its own fuel reservoir and can be operated independently of each other through an internal computer system, as well as the action of one or more self-powered actuator(s) can be controlled by an external computer so as to execute programmed routines involving several actuators simultaneously.
