  • Patent number: 7823649
Abstract: Plugging a side pocket mandrel using a swelling plug. A system for plugging a port in a side pocket of a mandrel in a subterranean well includes a plugging device installed in the side pocket of the mandrel, the plugging device including a swellable seal material, whereby the seal material swells at least after installation of the plugging device in the side pocket to thereby prevent fluid transfer through the port. A method of plugging a port in a side pocket of a mandrel in a subterranean well includes the steps of: providing the plugging device with a swellable seal material; installing the plugging device in the side pocket; and the seal material swelling in the side pocket, thereby preventing fluid transfer through the port.

  • Patent number: 5177978
Abstract: An auxiliary power system for delivering power to the fan hub of a vehicle engine and to the air conditioning compressor and alternator of the vehicle is provided. The system includes an auxiliary engine which powers an hydraulic pump. Hydraulic fluid is directed from the hydraulic pump to an hydraulic motor under pressure. A first clutch assembly is provided in order to engage and disengage the hydraulic motor from the fan hub of the vehicle. A second clutch assembly is provided in order to engage and disengage the crankshaft from the primary engine of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4838032
Abstract: An apparatus and method for measuring power and power losses of light transmissions in fiber optic cables. The apparatus includes a tester having a transmitter and a receiver, wherein the transmitter provides at one end of a fiber optic cable a test signal of a known wavelength of light modulated at a known or signature AC frequency. The receiver detects the transmitted signal at a second end of the cable, determines the modulating frequency of the transmitted signal for identifying the transmitted wavelength of light and measures power of the AC signal. If measuring the power loss, the receiver further compares the power intensities of the transmitted signal with the power intensity of a stored reference for determining the power loss associated with the transmission of a known wavelength of light.
