  • Patent number: 4643806
Abstract: Oxidation reactions and unsaturation producing reactions are disclosed to be carried out in a solid-state electrocatalytic reactor for electrolytic energy conversion and chemicals production. Additional reactions are disclosed to be carried out in a solid-state electrocatalytic cross flow monolith which has a high ion transport surface area per reactor volume. The additional reactions include selected oxidation reactions, selected addition reactions, electrolysis of steam to hydrogen, decomposition of nitric oxide to nitrogen and oxygen and the manufacture of aluminum from Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 in a eutectic solution.

  • Patent number: 4512964
Abstract: Nitric oxide is formed by the oxidation of ammonia. An ammonia containing gas is contacted with an oxidation catalyst comprising stainless steel in the presence of oxygen at a temperature between about 500.degree. C. and 1100.degree. C. in order to effect a reaction selectivity of at least 50%.

  • Patent number: 4463065
Abstract: Disclosed herein are ribbed catalyst-coated solid-state electrolyte sheets as well as a method for producing such sheets. Also disclosed is a fuel cell reactor comprising a plurality of said sheets stacked one upon another and cemented together to form a monolithic structure. Novel reactions utilizing the reactor to produce useful chemical oxidation products and/or electricity are set forth. Also disclosed is a novel wiring system to collect electrical power generated by the reactor.

  • Patent number: 4329208
Abstract: Ethylene oxide is formed by the oxidation of ethylene. An ethylene-containing gas is contacted with an oxidation catalyst deposited on the surface of a solid electrolyte while an oxygen-containing gas contacted with a second catalyst capable of dissociating oxygen gas to oxygen ion deposited upon a second surface of the solid electrolyte. Oxygen ions are transported under a positive voltage applied through the solid electrolyte to react with ethylene to form ethylene oxide.

  • Patent number: 4272336
Abstract: Nitric oxide is formed by the oxidation of ammonia. An ammonia containing gas is contacted with an oxidation catalyst deposited on a surface of a solid electrolyte while an oxygen containing gas is contacted with a second catalyst capable of dissociating oxygen gas to oxygen ion deposited upon a second surface of the solid electrolyte. Oxygen ion is transported through the solid electrolyte to react with ammonia to form nitric oxide under simultaneous production of electric energy.
