  • Patent number: 4604908
Abstract: A power take-off arrangement for a vehicle four-wheel drive transfer case. The transfer case housing end wall supports an annulus gear concentrically about the input shaft. The input shaft terminates in an end axial flange portion defining a sun gear of a helical planetary gear assembly. The inboard carrier ring includes peripheral power take-off gear teeth. The carrier rings are journalled on the opposed shoulders of the end axial flange portion. The carrier ring peripheral gear teeth are adapted to mesh with a power take-off input gear extending through an aperture in the housing side wall providing power take-off when the transfer case is driven in any of its various driving modes.

  • Patent number: 4529080
Abstract: A transfer case fork assembly for selectively shifting a vehicle powertrain clutch between two speed ranges. During the shifting to either speed range a momentary lock-up condition may result because of the applied torque to the transfer case output shaft. The invention uniquely arranges outer and inner nested spring biased brackets on the shift rail allowing subsequent lagging travel of the fork and clutch. The arrangement provides lost-motion travel of the manual shifting controls during the momentary clutch lock-up condition. Upon freeing of the clutch the spring biased brackets advance the fork thereby engaging the clutch in either its high or low speed range mode of operation.

  • Patent number: 4519265
Abstract: An arrangement for dampening a transmission synchronizer. A plurality of T-shaped shoes are disclosed for assembly on the jaw toothed shoulder of the synchronizer main gear. The shoulder has a plurality of chordal flats with a radial bore formed therein. Each T-shaped shoe is molded of resilient material and includes a cross head portion and a stem for reception in its associated radial bore. The synchronizer stop ring has selected individual ones of its internal teeth omitted creating slots defined by the omitted tooth together with the adjacent root spaces. The cross head is sized to snugly contact the opposed flanks of the adjacent stop ring teeth. By urging the stop ring internal teeth into a neutral centered position with the gear teeth the invention obviates stop ring rattle by eliminating play between the stop ring and the main gear.

  • Patent number: 4031780
Abstract: Four wheel drive train including a transfer case adapted to provide full time four wheel drive. A differential is provided in the transfer case and includes both a viscous coupling and a viscous fluid operated mechanical clutch which may be operated to inhibit and prevent differentiation.
