  • Publication number: 20130211706
Abstract: Systems, methods, and processor readable media for estimating the speed of a mobile radio terminal traveling on at least one road segment are disclosed. Certain embodiments are characterized by determining one or more routes through a road network that a mobile radio terminal could have traveled based on a sequence of wireless measurements from the mobile radio terminal. In addition, systems, methods, and processor readable media for collecting and transmitting radio communications network measurements from a mobile terminal for use in a system of estimating a traffic flow speed on road segments are disclosed. Certain embodiments are characterized by accumulating and communicating a plurality of wireless measurements to a traffic flow measurement server such that reporting of wireless measurements is minimized when the mobile radio terminal is stationary.

  • Patent number: 8505565
Abstract: Treating, sensing, diverting, measuring, and collecting devices for fluid such as water are described. When designed for use as chlorinators, the devices may divert water flowing in conduits into the devices for treatment and subsequent return to the flow stream. A return tube of the device may be designed to create vortex action, using a pressure differential to evacuate treated water from the device back into the conduit. When designed for use as feeders for supplying acid or other material to flowing water, the devices may include one or more channels communicating between the material and the flowing water. When designed for use as flow sensors or otherwise, the devices may include objects acted upon by flowing water to indicate that water indeed is flowing. Yet other sensors may be utilized to determine characteristics of water passing through the conduits.

  • Patent number: 8463285
Abstract: Methods and systems for determining whether a mobile radio terminal is on or out of a zone in a radio communications network. The methods and systems provide for generating a profile representative of the zone using measurements taken by the mobile radio terminal and/or the network and/or using predicted values. A comparison is then made between subsequent measurements or values and the profile to make a determination as to whether the mobile radio terminal is in or out of the zone. The methods and systems are applicable to any zone-based application including differential call charging, security applications, buddy finder services, mobile gaming and location based services in general.

  • Publication number: 20130104842
Abstract: A linear actuator (10) includes a plastic housing (12) having an integral flange (14) for mounting the actuator. A stator assembly (16), having windings (18), is disposed in the plastic housing. A rotor assembly (20), having a permanent magnet (22), is mounted for rotation with respect to the stator assembly such that when the windings are energized, a magnetic field is generated to cause rotation of the rotor assembly. A shaft (32) is restricted from rotation and is associated with the rotor assembly such that rotation of the rotor assembly causes linear movement of the shaft. Connector structure (46) houses leads for powering the windings. The plastic housing has an annular end (48) that captures an annular surface (50) of the connector structure to couple the plastic housing to the connector structure.

  • Patent number: 8359044
Abstract: A method and system is disclosed for locating a mobile radio terminal in a radio communications network. The method makes use of additional positional constraints provided as a result of unreported cells. In one form of the invention, a likely reason for a particular cell not being reported is determined and an associated probability term is determined for use in a position location model. The invention also relates to a system for implementing the method.

  • Publication number: 20120241073
Abstract: Novel cellular solids and foams from amorphous materials with a glass transition temperature (Tg) and methods of forming such materials are provided. In particular, foams are formed by expanding or compressing hollow spheres made of a high strength amorphous material, which is defined as a material having high strength characteristics, but also possessing a glass transition within a confined space. Using such a method, it has been unexpectedly found that it is possible to make cellular structures, including both open and closed cell foams, with customizable properties from materials that have been inaccessible with conventional methods. Moreover, based on calculations high specific strengths and stiffnesses are expected.

  • Patent number: 8265618
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and system for managing inconsistencies between a radio communications network and a network database. In one aspect, the system is informed of one or more inconsistencies and various decisions are made as to what actions to take. One possible action is to simply inform a network operator of the discrepancy. Another possible action is to determine which network elements are affected by the inconsistency and to update the network database in relation to those network elements to compensate for the inconsistency.
