The mounting based has a curved surface and is securely attachable to a substantially planar surface. The coupling device is securely or detachably attachable to the mounting base and the ornament is securely or detachably attachable to the coupling device.

Abstract: Various synchronization and content acquisition tasks able to be performed by a portable device are governed by reference to a budget. In operation, the budget may be adjusted as a function of a state of a battery associated with the portable device, as a function of one more file sizes associated with content to be acquired, as a function of a data transfer rate, and/or as a function of a temperature associated with the portable device. A filter may also be provided for use in determining which content the portable device will acquire.

Digital data based on user specified preferences is automatically obtained and transferred from a wide area network to a computer. The digital data is then automatically sent from the computer to a client device using a wireless data transceiver. In one embodiment, the client device is a television.

Abstract: A universal controlling device having a touch-sensitive display which is switchable between two operational modes. In one operational mode, the display provides one or more graphical user interfaces comprised of graphical user interface icons that are selectable to command operational functions of one or more appliances. In a second operational mode, the display provides pointer control where motions made by a stylus or finger in contact with the touch-sensitive display result in corresponding motions of a pointer on a display located remotely from the universal controlling device.

The adapter modules includes a wide area network transceiver for allowing the webpad to communicate with a remote server via a wide area network and a local area network transceiver for allowing the webpad to communicate with a local server via a local area network wherein the adapter module includes programming for causing the adapter module to select one of the wide area network or the local area network as a communication channel.

Abstract: A system and method for using a webpad to select a target device which is to receive from a source device a stream of a digital representation of a media. The webpad is used to send a transmission to the source device to cause the source device to route the stream of the digital representation of the media to the target device where the target device decodes and converts the digital representation of the media into analog signals to thereby allow for a reproduction of the media.

Abstract: A mounting system for a media playback device is provided having an outer module for rigidly mounting the media playback device to a surface, and a corresponding cartridge which is capable of being inserted and removed from the outer module. While inserted in the outer module, a first mounting subsystem functions to fixedly mount the cartridge within the outer module such that shock, vibration, and other physical environmental factors are not amplified in the cartridge. A second mounting subsystem is provided to protect the cartridge while removed from the outer module, and generally comprises a resilient material around a portion of the cartridge.

Abstract: A detachable remote controller for an electronic entertainment device and a method for using the same are provided. The detachable remote controller includes a first infrared transmitter and a second infrared transmitter. The first infrared transmitter transmits signals to the electronic device while the detachable remote controller is coupled with the entertainment device. The remote controller is shaped in such a way to be docked within a cavity and flush with one surface of the entertainment device. The first infrared transmitter is aligned in the cavity such that the first infrared transmitter transmits signals to a light pipe embedded within the entertainment device. The second infrared transmitter is located at one end of the detachable remote controller to transmit signals to the entertainment device while the detachable remote controller is not coupled with the entertainment device.

Abstract: A system is provided for delivering Internet and digital content to a variety of thin client devices. A web portal for accessing and selecting content is used in conjunction with graphical user interfaces on a personal computer for setting up and controlling the content channels. The user interfaces, scheduling, and communication management are controlled by a system control software application running on a local server with an Internet connection. A high speed local area network provides for streaming content from the Internet or local server to thin client devices. A digital audio playback device is connected to the local server via the local area network connection and decodes streamed audio files, and converts them into analog audio signals for input into a conventional stereo. Digital content is streamed automatically from the local server to another Internet playback device, based on end user content preferences and schedule selections.

Openings in the case are provided for extending a connector cable that is plugged into the wireless phone, and for retractably extracting an earphone segment. The earphone cable segment is extracted for use when using the wireless phone in a hands-free scenario, and retracted when the assembly is to be stored.

Abstract: A portable computer system comprising a portable computer mechanically, electrically, and thermally connected to a dock is shown. The portable computer comprises a base assembly containing a microprocessor, media, batteries, and keyboard, and an internal heat moving apparatus thermally connected to the microprocessor. The dock includes a housing with a plurality of connectors and a thermal dissipation apparatus. A thermal connection is made between the portable computer and the dock through a thermal connector port located at the rear of the portable computer base and at the corresponding location on the dock. The portable computer also contains a thermal state monitor and controller subsystem. When the portable computer is connected to the dock, heat is moved from it to the dock via the heat moving apparatus and the thermal state monitor and controller subsystem permits the microprocessor to run at a fast clock-speed.
