Publication number: 20020121128Abstract: A quantitative method of evaluating swimwear for underwater leakage using a mechanical test mannequin, a water tank, a fluorescent bowel movement simulant, and a fluorescence meter. More particularly, a swimwear garment is applied to the mannequin, the fluorescent bowel movement simulant is inserted into the swimwear garment, the mannequin and the swimwear garment are submersed into water within the water tank, and a motion mechanism attached to the mannequin moves the mannequin up and down, thereby simulating typical water play movements. The fluorescence meter can be used to quantitatively determine the amount of leakage of the fluorescent bowel movement simulant from the swimwear garment.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 29, 2000Publication date: September 5, 2002Inventors: Sherry Ann Van Dyke, Robin Kurt Nason, Daryl Steven Meyer, David W. Koenig, Thomas Mathias Kolb, Cynthia Helen Nordness, Marcille Faye Ruman, Faith Eileen Cochrane, Jesse Paul Sorenson, Devertt DeWayne Woolwine, Jerome James Workman

Patent number: 6248097Abstract: An absorbent article (10) which includes a backsheet layer (30) having a pair of laterally opposed and longitudinally extending side margins (20). Each side margin has an outwardly concave, terminal side edge contour 15 located at appointed leg opening regions (17) in an intermediate portion (16) of the side margin. Each concave side edge contour (15) has a selected longitudinal extent along a length dimension (26) of the article (10). A liquid permeable topsheet layer (28) is connected in a superposed facing relation to the backsheet layer (30), and an absorbent body (32) is sandwiched between the topsheet layer (28) and the backsheet layer (30). A separately provided gusset-flap composite member (19) is connected to at least one of the backsheet and topsheet layers along each of the leg opening regions (17). The gusset-flap member (19) provides a leg gusset section (142) and a containment flap section (144), and is distinctively configured to provide improved leakage resistance, fit and comfort.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1999Date of Patent: June 19, 2001Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventors: Mark John Beitz, Monica Lynn Bontrager, Barbara Ann Gossen, Chris Lee Heikkinen, Daniel Hoo, David Andrae Justmann, Richard Francis Keller, Cynthia Helen Nordness, Douglas Paul Rammer, Lorry Francis Sallee, Raymond Gerard St. Louis, David James VanEperen, Cynthia Louise Wyngaard, Sandra Marie Yarbrough, Roxanne Marie Zuleger, Steven Scott Friderich, Eric Scott Kepner, Kuo-Shu Edward Chang

Patent number: 5904675Abstract: An absorbent article has a longitudinal length dimension, a lateral cross dimension, a front waistband portion, a back waistband portion and an intermediate portion which interconnects the front and back waistband portions. The article includes a backsheet layer having a pair of laterally opposed side margins, with each side margin having an outwardly concave, terminal side edge contour located at appointed leg opening regions in an intermediate portion of each of the side margins. Each concave side edge contour has a selected longitudinal extent along the length dimension of the article. A liquid permeable topsheet layer is connected in superposed relation to the backsheet layer, and an absorbent body is sandwiched between the topsheet layer and the backsheet layer.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 1997Date of Patent: May 18, 1999Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventors: Daniel Richard Laux, Lynn Carol Brud, Barbara Ann Gossen, Eric Donald Johnson, Cynthia Helen Nordness, Deborah Lynn Proxmire, Mark Louis Robinson, Paula Mary Sosalla, Robert Alan Stevens

Patent number: 5836930Abstract: A distinctive absorbent article comprises a substantially liquid-impermeable outer cover member having a length and a width. The outer cover provides a rear waistband portion and a front waistband portion, and has a layer of polymer film material on an outer surface of the front waistband portion of the outer cover. A liquid permeable topsheet layer is provided for contacting a wearer's skin, and an absorbent body is interposed between the outer cover and the topsheet layer. The absorbent body has a length and width which are smaller than the outer cover length and width, thereby providing end margins and side margins of the outer cover. An adhesive fastening mechanism adheres to the film layer to secure the front and rear waistband portions of the outer cover about the wearer. An elastic member is connected to provide elasticized gathers along a cross-direction of the rear waistband portion of the outer cover.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 1994Date of Patent: November 17, 1998Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, IncInventors: Joanne Mary Lantz, David Louis Zenker, Thomas Harold Roessler, Rob David Everett, Lynn Carol Brud, Barbara Ann Gossen, Eric Mitchell Johns, Cynthia Helen Nordness

Patent number: 5827259Abstract: An absorbent article includes a longitudinal length dimension, a lateral cross-dimension, a front waistband portion, a back waistband portion, an intermediate portion which interconnects the front and back waistband portions, and a pair of laterally opposed elasticized side margins. The article has a backsheet layer, and a liquid permeable topsheet layer connected in superposed relation to the backsheet layer. An absorbent body is sandwiched between the topsheet layer and the backsheet layer, and an elasticized, waist pocket member is connected to at least one of the backsheet and topsheet layers along at least one end margin of the article. The waist pocket member includes an extending flange section and an extending pocket section. The pocket section of the waist pocket member includes a substantially fixed edge portion secured to the article, and an elasticized, gathered moveable edge portion, which is longitudinally spaced from the fixed edge portion.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1995Date of Patent: October 27, 1998Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventors: Daniel Richard Laux, Lynn Carol Brud, Barbara Ann Gossen, Eric Donald Johnson, Cynthia Helen Nordness, Deborah Lynn Proxmire, Mark Louis Robinson, Paula Mary Sosalla, Robert Alan Stevens
