  • Patent number: 9526228
Abstract: A tracking tag for aquatic animals may detect the occurrence of a predation event. The tag may include a pH sensitive material that degrades in the environment of an animal's gut. The degradation of the pH sensitive material causes a change in a detectable characteristic of the tag, which allows the tag to detect the predation event and adjust its operation accordingly.

  • Patent number: 9345587
Abstract: A process for inserting a pivotable interbody spacer including an insertion instrument configured to manipulate a pivotable interbody spacer during insertion, wherein the insertion instrument includes means for coupling the interbody spacer and a means for fixing the angular position of the interbody spacer. According to one method for inserting an interbody spacer in a spinal disk space, the interbody spacer is grasped by the insertion instrument and fixed at a first angular position. The interbody spacer is next inserted into a surgical site. Next, the interbody spacer is released from a first angular position. Then, the insertion instrument is pivoted about a coupling of the interbody spacer such that the interbody spacer is in a second angular position. The angular position of the interbody spacer is then fixed in the second angular position. This insertion process continues until the interbody spacer is positioned in the desired location.

  • Publication number: 20140277505
Abstract: The present invention relates to orthopedic implants. More specifically, the present invention is a series of orthopedic implants constructed from biocompatible material, each including a plurality of markers constructed from bioactive glass material, some of which are radio-opaque. In addition to providing recognizable markers for use by the surgeon implanting the device, the bioactive glass markers provide a lattice structure which allows for the in-growth of bone into portions of the implant. The in-growth provides enhanced structural integrity between the implant and the bone structure of the patient and may shorten healing time.

  • Publication number: 20060088144
Abstract: A method and apparatus for associating message types, elements, and/or content with data from one or more data stores are provided. Current limitations on the tracking and management of information contained within or associated with message types and elements are overcome through an association manager or “data linking engine” that provides context-driven workflow management for end-users. The end-users may work in an application context that is not integrated in the messaging system. The application context may include databases, systems, data stores, links in Web pages, etc. If the association manager appends data to a given message, recipients of that message have the ability to access added functionality within the context of the messaging system.
