A method of fastening two expanded cellular confinement structures includes aligning two expanded cellular confinement structures; inserting an insertion member of a connection device through open slots; and turning the connection device.

The handle member has first and second handle ends and a handle member extension therebetween. The shank is spaced from each of the first and second handle ends. A cellular confinement system includes first and second unitary webs of cells made from elongated plastic strips bonded together in spaced apart areas. The strips form walls of the cells and at least some of the cells define open slots. At least one open slot of a first unitary web of cells is aligned with at least one open slot of a second unitary web of cells to result in a cell overlap region.

    Abstract: A portable porous pavement system includes a plurality of porous pavement units and a plurality of clamping devices. Each porous pavement unit is connected to adjacent porous pavement units by at least one clamping device. Each clamping device includes a first and a second bracket. The second bracket is in intimate communication with a slot arrangement of the first bracket. The second bracket has a twisted arrangement to secure the second bracket and the first bracket together. Adjacent walls of adjacent porous pavement units are sandwiched between the first and second brackets to secure the adjacent porous pavement units together. A method for assembling a portable porous pavement system includes mounting a clamp over two adjacent walls of adjacent porous pavement units; mounting a locking bracket over the clamp; and twisting two arms together to secure the locking bracket and clamp around the adjacent porous pavement units.

    Abstract: A fastener for a cellular confinement system provides a tendon-retaining protrusion for receiving and retaining a reinforcing tendon passing through the cellular walls of the cellular confinement system or over the tops of the cellular walls of the cellular confinement system. The fastener includes a body with an opening configured to be attached to the end of a reinforcing bar for securing the tendon to the ground. Alternatively, the fastener is secured to the tendon so as to transfer forces from the cell wall of the cellular confinement system to the tendon.

    Abstract: Spliced structural members for supporting a traffic deck on a short span bridge. A spliced structural member includes a plurality of metal box-shaped girder segments placed end to end and splice channels nested around the adjacent ends of the girder segments. A spliced joint is formed by connecting the splice channels to the adjacent ends of the girder segments. The spliced joint has at least 75% of the flexural and shear strength of the girder segments and provides continuity for structural strength and rigidity for the spliced structural member.
