Publication number: 20230351609Abstract: A show effect system may include an applicator configured to apply a detectable marker, a camera configured to generate image data representative of an environment with the detectable marker, and a control system communicatively coupled to the camera and comprising a processor and a memory, wherein the memory stores instructions executable by the processor. The detectable marker may include an ultra-violet (UV) component with a detectable wavelength range corresponding to UV-A, UV-B or UV-C. The processor may execute the instructions that cause the processor to determine a motion of the detectable marker based on the image data and determine that the motion of the detectable marker corresponds to a target motion. The processor may also identify a show effect that may be associated with the target motion and trigger generation of the show effect in the environment.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 21, 2022Publication date: November 2, 2023Inventors: Daniel Matthew Freedman, Sarah Anne Kelley, Brian Birney McQuillian, David Gerard Majdali

Patent number: 11565644Abstract: A passenger restraint system of a vehicle includes a passenger restraint article with an interface, and a locking device that secures the interface. In some embodiments, the vehicle includes a vertical channel that enables the locking device to travel up and down. The locking device may include a camera that enables the locking device to align with the interface, and once aligned, the locking device secures the interface. In additional or alternative embodiments, the locking device includes two C-bars and a biasing element that urges the locking device into an open position. When the passenger sits or leans against the opened C-bars, the force caused by the interface on the C-bars overcomes the force applied by the biasing element, urging the C-bars into a closed position. The locking device is then secured by engaging a locking bar that pushes against a surface of the C-bars.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 2019Date of Patent: January 31, 2023Assignee: Universal City Studios LLCInventors: Daniel Matthew Freedman, Ji Hyun Han, William Travis Faircloth, Michael Joseph Troise, Julia Ann Javorsky, Hannah Amelia Brush, Morgan Elizabeth Dickinson, Robert Henry Cybulski, III

Publication number: 20220174451Abstract: An attraction system has a plurality of show effects, a handheld or wearable device, and a control system. The control system is configured to perform operations that include monitoring a parameter of the handheld or wearable device, determining that the parameter is indicative of an undesirable utilization of the attraction system, and controlling the handheld or wearable device, at least one show effect of the plurality of show effects, or both. The control system is also configured to provide guidance to change the parameter in response to the determination that the parameter is indicative of the undesirable utilization of the attraction system.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 31, 2021Publication date: June 2, 2022Inventors: Victor Alexander Lugo, Daniel Matthew Freedman, Asli Soyler Akbas, James Anderson, Jared Cryder, Robert Jordan
