  • Patent number: 11828755
Abstract: In various embodiments methods and devices are provided for the detection and/or quantification of an analyte. In certain embodiments a device is provided comprising an aqueous two-phase system (ATPS) comprising a mixed phase solution that separates into a first phase solution and a second phase where, in use, said first phase solution becomes a leading phase and said second phase solution becomes a lagging phase; a lateral-flow assay (LFA); and a probe and/or a development reagent, where in use, said probe associates with said first phase solution in said leading phase of said ATPS and/or said development reagent associates with said second phase solution in said lagging phase of said ATPS. In certain embodiments a “one-pot” system of purifying and amplifying a nucleic acid is provided utilizing, e.g., an ATPS and isothermal amplification reagents.

  • Patent number: 11824792
Abstract: A system for facilitating sender-side congestion control is provided. During operation, the system, on a sender node, can determine the utilization of a buffer at a last-hop switch to a receiver node based on in-flight packets to the receiver node. The receiver node can be reachable from the sender node via the last-hop switch. The system can then determining a fraction of available space in the buffer for packets from the sender node based on the utilization of the buffer. Subsequently, the system can determine whether the fraction of the available space in the buffer can accommodate a next packet from the sender node while avoiding congestion at the buffer at the receiver node. If the fraction of the available space in the buffer can accommodate the next packet, the system can allow the sender node to send the next packet to the receiver node.

  • Patent number: 11802067
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for nitrogen gas sparging assisted biological treatment of water. In one example, a denitrification system may include a media-packed column or bed through which nitrogen gas is sparged to remove dissolved oxygen from water. In some examples, an external carbon source and electron donor may be added to the media-packed column or bed to facilitate biological removal of the nitrate and/or other contaminants from the water. In this way, by relying on the sparged nitrogen gas to remove the dissolved oxygen, less of the external carbon source and electron donor may be employed as compared to denitrification systems not assisted by nitrogen gas sparging.

  • Patent number: 11788504
Abstract: A buoyant wave energy device is disclosed that incorporates an open-bottomed tube of substantial length in which is partially enclosed a first body of water that oscillates in response to wave action. The device incorporates a buoy to which an upper end of the tube is connected and inside of which is trapped a second body of water of substantial mass. A differential phase in the oscillations of the water trapped in the tube, and the oscillations of the buoy of augmented mass, result in the periodic compression of a pocket of air trapped at the top of the tube, and in the subsequent expulsion of pressurized air through a turbine, thereby generating electrical power.
