  • Publication number: 20090057650
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to sub-microelectronic circuitry, and more particularly to nanometer-scale articles, including nanoscale wires which can be selectively doped at various locations and at various levels. In some cases, the articles may be single crystals. The nanoscale wires can be doped, for example, differentially along their length, or radially, and either in terms of identity of dopant, concentration of dopant, or both. This may be used to provide both n-type and p-type conductivity in a single item, or in different items in close proximity to each other, such as in a crossbar array. The fabrication and growth of such articles is described, and the arrangement of such articles to fabricate electronic, optoelectronic, or spintronic devices and components.

  • Patent number: 7473653
Abstract: Methods of preparing a low stress porous low-k dielectric material on a substrate are provided. The methods involve the use of a structure former precursor and/or porogen precursor with one or more organic functional groups. In some cases, the structure former precursor has carbon-carbon double or triple bonds. In other cases, one or both of the structure former precursor and porogen precursor has one or more bulky organic groups. In other cases, the structure former precursor has carbon-carbon double or triple bonds and one or both of the structure former precursor and porogen precursor has one or more bulky organic groups. Once the precursor film is formed, the porogen is removed, leaving a porous low-k dielectric matrix with high mechanical strength. Different types of structure former precursors and porogen precursors are described. The resulting low stress low-k porous film may be used as a low-k dielectric film in integrated circuit manufacturing applications.

  • Patent number: 7454337
Abstract: The present invention is a method of modeling a single class of data from data containing multiple classes of data of the same type of data by first receiving a collection of data that includes data from multiple classes of data of the same type where the amount of data of the single class of data exceeds that of any other class of data. A first statistical model of the received collection of data is generated. The collection of data is divided into subsets. Each subset of the speech collection of data is scored using the first statistical model. A set of scores is selected. The subsets corresponding to the selected scores are identified. The identified subsets are combined. A second statistical model of the type of the first statistical model is generated for the combined subsets and used as the model of the single class of data.

  • Publication number: 20080245943
Abstract: An apparatus for retaining at least one sheet against a back surface is disclosed herein. In at least one embodiment, the apparatus comprises a wedge member, a roller member, a biasing member, and a release mechanism. The roller member is moveable between a first position where the roller surface contacts the wedge member and a second position where the roller surface is separated from the wedge member. The biasing member biases the roller member toward the first position. The release mechanism is connected to the roller member and moveable between a clamp position and a release position. The release mechanism moves the roller member from the first position to the second position when the release mechanism is moved from the clamp position to the release position.

  • Patent number: 7350447
Abstract: Buried land mines, which are triggered by pressure, particularly anti-personnel mines which are triggered by the pressure of a person's foot, are destroyed by impinging laser beam pulses on the surface of the soil. With appropriately chosen beam parameters, a laser supported detonation is created in the atmosphere above the soil by each beam pulse impingement. That results in a blast wave within the soil, the pressure of which causes a mine trigger to explode the mine. A multiplicity of beam pulses are impinged on the soil surface in location- and time-coordination, to create a multiplicity of blast waves which provide pressure-time profiles within the shallow depth of the soil, sufficient to trigger mine types that are configured to resist triggering from a single detonation, whether induced by laser or chemical means.

  • Patent number: 7127392
Abstract: The present invention is a device for and method of detecting voice activity. First, the AM envelope of a segment of a signal of interest is determined. Next, the number of times the AM envelope crosses a user-definable threshold is determined. If there are no crossings, the segment is identified as non-speech. next, the number of points on the AM envelope within a user-definable range is determined. If there are less than a user-definable number of points within the range, the segment is identified as non-speech. Next, the mean, variance, and power ratio of the normalized spectral content of the AM envelope is found and compared to the same for known speech and non-speech. The segment is identified as being of the same type as the known speech or non-speech to which it most closely compares. These steps are repreated for each signal segment of interest.

  • Patent number: 7097410
Abstract: The orientation of a wafer with respect to the surface of an electrolyte is controlled during an electroplating process. The wafer is delivered to an electrolyte bath along a trajectory normal to the surface of the electrolyte. Along this trajectory, the wafer is angled before entry into the electrolyte for angled immersion. A wafer can be plated in an angled orientation or not, depending on what is optimal for a given situation. Also, in some designs, the wafer's orientation can be adjusted actively during immersion or during electroplating, providing flexibility in various electroplating scenarios.

  • Patent number: 7010005
Abstract: The output of a high power pulsed or CW laser (22), which may be mounted on a vehicle (17) is reflected from a convex mirror (27) to a concave mirror (29) that is displaced radially outward on a rotating structure (14) from the convex mirror by at least two beam diameters so that each pulse emanates from a position around a circle which is displaced from adjacent pulses by at least the diameter of the beam, thereby to minimize thermal blooming, or the position of a CW output laser beam is slewed. Directing the beams so that all of them will converge at a target area which is a given range from the apparatus is achieved by moving the convex mirror axially in response to range control signals provided through brushes (47) and slip rings (46). The rotating structure (14) including the laser waveguide (24) is journaled by bearings (50, 51) for rotation by a gear in response to a pinion (34) and gear reduction (37) driven by a motor (38).

  • Patent number: 6996259
Abstract: A system and method for counting ridges in a captured print image frame is described. A pixel path through the captured print image frame is traversed. A hysteresis band for the pixel path is determined. A number of crossings of the determined hysteresis band is counted while traversing the pixel path. A number of print ridges based on the counted number of hysteresis band crossings is determined.

  • Patent number: 6983062
Abstract: A system and method of capturing an acceptable fingerprint image is disclosed herein. The method includes a step of capturing an initial fingerprint image at a nominal image integration time. Once this initial fingerprint image is captured, a first intermediate fingerprint image at a first intermediate image integration time is captured. Next, an image darkness test is performed followed by an image definition test. If one or more of these tests indicates that the first intermediate fingerprint image is unacceptable, a subsequent intermediate fingerprint image at a subsequent intermediate image integration time is captured. This subsequent intermediate fingerprint image can be captured before the image definition test is performed. Additional intermediate fingerprint images can be captured until an image that has an acceptable darkness level as a well as an acceptable definition level is captured. Also disclosed is a fingerprint scanner that performs this method.

  • Patent number: 6688303
Abstract: A method and system is described for controlling a solar collector. A microprocessor receives inputs from one or more sensors in the system and determines the level of operation of an energy conversion device. If the level of operation reaches a predetermined setpoint below a maximum level at which the device is to operate, a variable focus solar concentrator is defocused to reduce energy input into the energy conversion device. When the system cools down and operates at a second predetermined level, lower than the first predetermined level, the concentrator is then refocused to increase the power input to the energy conversion device.
