    Abstract: The growth of algae, fungi and pathogenic organisms in commercial and recreational waters, such as cooling towers, swimming pools and spas, may be controlled by adding to the water a primary sanitizing agent, preferably poly(hexamethylene biguanide) ("PHMB"), and a potentiating adjuvant comprising a calcium ion-chelating agent, preferably ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid ("EDTA"), in amounts such that the adjuvant renders the composition algicidal and fungicidal in water. The water may be further treated with a peroxy salt as a backup agent, preferably sodium perborate, or the calcium ion-chelating agent and peroxy salt may be combined as a shock treatment to water being treated with the primary sanitizing agent.

The surfactant compositions contain (a) a polyoxyalkylene alkyl or alkylaryl ether phosphate ester, (b) a polyoxyalkylene alkyl amine, and (c) a material selected from the group consisting of nonionic polyoxyalkylated surfactants, polyhydric alcohol esters and polyoxyalkylene glycols.

    Abstract: Cationic, cross-linkable acrylic-polyester emulsion binder resin systems are described which are useful as adhesives for binding organic, metal, and glass filaments to each other and to various substrates in the preparation of reinforced composites. These novel binder resin systems are derived from copolymerized ethylenically unsaturated monomers having pendant non-functional, cross-linking functional, and cationic groups. The cationic polymer emulsions are particularly useful when they are cross-linked with polyester resin polymer chains such as those formed by condensing unsaturated dicarboxylic acids with polyols and which can be applied as stable aqueous emulsions.
