  • Publication number: 20200124477
Abstract: A freeform imaging system with a spectrometer and telescope components optically connected and optimized to increase the spectral and spatial resolution capabilities. Many embodiments of the system are capable of producing a spectral resolution of approximately 1 nm and a spatial resolution less than 30m such that the imaging system can be used to accurately capture and measure point source plumes of various atmospheric gases including CH4, CO2, CO, N2O, and H2O.

  • Patent number: 10575971
Abstract: Hybrid terrain-adaptive lower-extremity apparatus and methods that perform in a variety of different situations by detecting the terrain that is being traversed, and adapting to the detected terrain. In some embodiments, the ability to control the apparatus for each of these situations builds upon five basic capabilities: (1) determining the activity being performed; (2) dynamically controlling the characteristics of the apparatus based on the activity that is being performed; (3) dynamically driving the apparatus based on the activity that is being performed; (4) determining terrain texture irregularities (e.g., how sticky is the terrain, how slippery is the terrain, is the terrain coarse or smooth, does the terrain have any obstructions, such as rocks) and (5) a mechanical design of the apparatus that can respond to the dynamic control and dynamic drive.

  • Patent number: 8527481
Abstract: According to one embodiment, a computer program product includes a computer readable storage medium having computer readable program code embodied therewith. The code is configured to: receive an index record including descriptions of data records, and determine if the index record is valid. For a valid index record, code is configured to locate a desired index entry from the valid index record, and to retrieve a last index entry of the valid index record. Also included in the computer program product is code configured to: read all data records to be described in a corrected index record, store a key and a location for each of the read data records, sort the read data records sequentially by key, create the corrected index record for all the read data records, and store the corrected index record. Other systems, computer program products, and methods are described as well.

  • Patent number: 5290998
Abstract: An electric iron is provided together with a temperature control module whereby the iron is electrically connectable to the module and is temperature controllable from circuitry therein. The iron is cordless and the control module includes a support platform for the iron. The control module may be part of an ironing board which itself is electrically heatable and may be adapted to form a trousers press. The iron cooperatively interengages the platform in a rest position at a forwardly sloping angle which enhances stability, allows gravity to maintain the iron in interengagement with the platform and enhances convenient removal of the iron from the platform for use.

  • Patent number: 4303082
Abstract: A manually operated machine is provided for compressing a charge of tobacco into a cylindrical shape and inserting the compressed charge into a preformed cigarette tube. It comprises a body having a nozzle for supporting the cigarette tube, a sliding compression member directly connected to an operating handle, and an ejector such as a tobacco spoon and ejection plug for injecting the cylindrical charge of tobacco through the nozzle into the cigarette tube. The ejector cooperates with a back edge of a tobacco insertion slot, which is directed at a small acute angle thereto, to exert a scissors-like cutting action on protruding strands of tobacco whereby there is produced a clean separation of the charge of tobacco to be compressed.

  • Patent number: 4270416
Abstract: A hand held device is provided which permits safe removal of used blades from scalpels or the like in which a slotted blade is received in opposed lateral grooves in a thin elongate tang with a proximal region of the blade located behind the tang in a cut-away laterally convergent region intermediate the tang and the handle. The device includes a base wall over whose surface the scalpel is advanced and having laterally opposed protuberant regions over which the blade slides. A slot between the protuberant regions which receives the tang but not the blade. A fully inserted position of the scalpel is defined by abutment between the proximal edges of the protuberant regions and said convergent region.
