  • Publication number: 20060161678
Abstract: A data system architecture is described that allows multiple processing and storage resources to be connected to multiple clients so as 1) to distribute the clients' workload efficiently across the available resources; and 2) to enable scaleable expansion, both in terms of the number of clients and in the number of resources. The major features of the architecture are separate, modular, client and resource elements that can be added independently, a high-performance cross-bar data switch interconnecting these various elements, separate serial communication paths for controlling the cross-bar switch settings, separate communication paths for passing control information among the various elements and a resource utilization methodology that enables clients to distribute processing or storage tasks across all available resources, thereby eliminating “hot spots” resulting from uneven utilization of those resources.
    Type: Application
    Filed: March 20, 2006
    Publication date: July 20, 2006
    Applicant: EMC Corporation
Inventors: Raju Bopardikar, Jacob Bast, Gary Cardone, David Kaufman, Stuart MacEachern, Bruce McLeod, James Nolan, Zdenek Radouch, Jack Stiffler, James Wentworth

  • Publication number: 20030126028
Abstract: Methods and systems by which a consumer may select or specify optional features of an absorbent paper product, such as a facial tissue or paper towel product, and then receive an absorbent paper product having the very features selected by the consumer. These optional features may include the color, scent, size, shape or graphic design of the product. Further, a consumer can preferably provide a graphic design (e.g., including text, photographic images, or other graphics) together with a purchase order for an absorbent paper product, and then receive such a product which bears the consumer's graphic design. These absorbent paper products may be “made to order” at the point of purchase or a remote location. In the latter case, a consumer may provide information relating to desired product features over a communications network to a remote production machine which then produces the specific product desired by the consumer.

  • Patent number: 6027507
Abstract: A leg length gauge for use during hip joint replacement surgery to insure that the overall length of the patient's leg subsequent to the surgery is substantially the same as it was prior to the surgery. A first pin is inserted into a patient's ilium and a second pin is inserted into the patient's femur. A removable gauge including an adjustably coupled pair of members having pin receiving apertures for receiving the first and second pins is positioned on the pins. One member includes a base portion provided with one of said pin receiving apertures and having an elongated leg extending from the base portion. The other member is provided with the other pin receiving aperture and includes a transverse aperture for receiving the elongated leg. The elongated leg is selectively adjustably secured within the transverse aperture by tightening a thumbscrew.
