Abstract: Methods and apparatus for updating virtual machines (VMs) on a provider network according to modifications made to a server in a client network. A version of the server may be currently instantiated and executing as one or more VM instances on the provider network. Agent(s) installed on the server in the client network intercept write requests to volume(s) attached to the server, and send blocks that include updates to the server volume(s) to a service on the provider network. The service stores the blocks to incremental snapshots, and generates timestamped machine images (MIs) of the server from the snapshots. A VM service updates the VM instances on the provider network according to the MIs. Thus, the VM instances can be kept up to date with changes to the server without having to upload the entire volume(s) to the provider network to perform each update.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed which facilitate monitoring of usage information associated with services implemented within a hosted computing environment. Providers of a service, or other authorized parties, may be enabled to associate one or more descriptors with a service. Thereafter, each service instances may be monitored for such descriptors. By correlating usage information of instances with specific descriptors, usage information for the descriptor may be generated. In some instances, usage information corresponding to a descriptor may be utilized to monitor license agreements associated with services including the descriptor. Further, use of descriptors may reduce or eliminate the need to associate services with physical attributes of hosting computing devices, such as media access control addresses.

Abstract: A system providing views of a technical architecture of an enterprise that take into account the content type interest, level of detail and time frame of desired information. A user, with a browser interface, selects a portal specifying the type of content to be viewed. A profile of the user indicates the level of detail and time frame of information to be obtained. The interface provides the user's selection of desired information within the portal in the form of a page request that is converted into queries of a database that seek content satisfying the type, level of detail and time frame attributes of the request. The content is formed into a web page and provided to the interface by the web server. Content is separated into atomic units allowing the information to be rearranged responsive to each user's needs.
