Patent number: 10341627Abstract: A system, method, and/or apparatus for displaying and selecting information using a single, handheld device is provided. The handheld device includes a combined projection and selection tool that projects a user interface for selection of information by the same device. As incorporated into a single unit, the components of the handheld device generally include a camera, a light-emitting component, and a projector, with at least one of the components being stabilized relative to the movement of the handheld device. At least a part of the projected image from the handheld device is selectable based on the position of the stabilized component relative to the position of a nonstabilized component. The handheld also includes a trigger for selection of one or more of the projected items based on position of a laser indicator pointed at the projected image.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2012Date of Patent: July 2, 2019Assignee: INTERMEC IP CORP.Inventors: John S. Bandringa, Dean Jeffrey Bidwell, William A. Marty, Steven Tzu-Yen Peng

Patent number: 10191514Abstract: A modular interface and attachment system for integration with, or use with, a tablet computer is disclosed. The system allows for the modular attachment of ergonomic features, specialty I/O devices, and specialty data entry hardware. Interface channels may be built into the rear surface of the tablet housing, while the accompanying accessories are provided with mating splines. The interface channels can also include electrical contacts to provide power to accessories that are mounted, or to facilitate the mounting of an auxiliary battery. Accessories that require a physical data or I/O interface with the tablet can be mounted at either end of the tablet at positions where data connectors are provided.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2015Date of Patent: January 29, 2019Assignee: HAND HELD PRODUCTS, INC.Inventors: Dean Jeffrey Bidwell, Andrew Lyle Walston, Michael James Wells, John Spencer Bandringa, Matthew Willkens

Publication number: 20160292477Abstract: When imaging with a smartphone, a user typically uses the smartphone's display as a viewfinder. The user aligns the smartphone's camera with a target by focusing on the display rather than the target. Traditionally, barcode scanners have used aimers rather than viewfinders for this alignment. An aimer projects a visible pattern onto a target. To scan a barcode, a user aligns and positions this visible pattern with the barcode. This approach to barcode targeting is highly desirable for regular barcode scanning. The present invention embraces an aimer for a smartphone that allows a user to target a barcode with a projected pattern, while using the smartphone's imaging-system and processing to scan the barcode. In some embodiments, the aimer is incorporated in a case for the smartphone.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 31, 2015Publication date: October 6, 2016Inventor: Dean Jeffrey Bidwell

Patent number: 8723904Abstract: A mobile printer comprising a printer body and a printer door is provided. The printer body has a recessed area that is sized to receive a media roll. The media roll has a void interior portion that is sized to receive one or more batteries that provide power to the mobile printer. Further, the printer door is operatively coupled to the printer body. When in an open position, the printer door allows for placement of a media roll from a side of the mobile printer into the recessed area. When closed, however, the media roll is retained in place relative to the printer body and the media from the media roll is captured for printing.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 2010Date of Patent: May 13, 2014Assignee: Intermec IP Corp.Inventors: William A. Publication number: 20110057603Abstract: A smart battery charger is provided that includes one or more sensors to identify a particular battery, generate a usage profile for the battery over time, and develop a charging strategy that maximizes the useful life of the battery. The useful life of the battery may be maximized by minimizing the charge on the battery over the course of the battery's life. The charge may be minimized by delayed charging and undercharging.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 31, 2010Publication date: March 10, 2011Applicant: INTERMEC IP CORP.Inventors: William A. Publication number: 20040085715Abstract: A particular orientation of a control panel and an accessory device provides ergonomic benefits to an operator. A user control is mounted on a corner of the stand. The user interface of an accessory device is mounted at about a 45° angle to the control panel on one side of the stand. User tools, such as a transducer connector, are also mounted at about a 45° angle to the control panel, such as mounted on a different side of the stand adjacent to the control panel. Convenient access is provided to all of the control panel, the user interface of the accessory device, and the user tools. Additional leg room is also provided due to the angle of the stand relative to the user position in front of the control panel. The ultrasound system or other data system with this orientation of components allows ergonomic use of the system in a more confined space.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 29, 2003Publication date: May 6, 2004Applicant: Siemens Medical Systems, Inc.Inventors: Dean Jeffrey Bidwell, Andrew Lyle Walston, Stephen Bruce Hooper
