  • Patent number: 8403012
Abstract: A tread wear indicator may be molded into the shoulder region of a tire tread and may have three symbols. Two of the symbols may be alphanumeric characters and the third symbol may surround the two symbols. All three symbols may be visible prior to wearing the tread. After the tread has been worn a first amount, the first symbol may be invisible and the second and third symbols may be visible to indicate to the user that a new tire will soon be required. After the tread has been worn a second amount, the first and second symbols may be invisible and the third symbol may be visible to indicate to the user that a new tire is required immediately.

  • Patent number: 8156977
Abstract: A tire is configured having first and second shoulder rows of shoulder tread elements opposite respective first and second interior rows of interior tread elements, separated respectively by circumferentially extending, zig-zag shaped first and second grooves within a tire tread region. Each groove is defined by opposed shoulder tread elements and interior tread elements and includes a circumferentially continuous see-through central groove portion extending parallel to a circumferential centerplane of the tread. The see-through circumferential grooves communicate with angular intermediate and shoulder lateral grooves having a relatively wide mouth dimension adjacent to a respective circumferential grooves. Staggered in and out shoulder regions within the shoulder tread elements facilitate gripping edges and prevent mud clogging of the shoulder grooves.

  • Patent number: 8079391
Abstract: A pneumatic tire includes a circumferential tread disposed between opposing tread edges and opposing sidewalls disposed radially inward from the opposing tread edges. Each sidewall has a rectangular extension block and a triangular extension block. The rectangular extension block protrudes axially outward by a first amount. The triangular extension block protrudes axially outward by a second amount. The first amount is less than the second amount.

  • Patent number: 7874331
Abstract: The tread of a pneumatic tire has a plurality of tread elements separated by at least one groove, the tread elements having a depth as determined from an initial tread surface and the base of the at least one groove. The tread has at least one chamfer. The chamfer is divided into at least two inclined adjacent portions with the inclined adjacent portions being inclined at different inclination angles relative to the tread surface. The difference in inclination angles of the different portions is at least 10°. The inclined adjacent portions are both connected to an inclined common area, the inclined common area being adjacent to the initial tread surface.

  • Patent number: 7784511
Abstract: A tire has a tread and a pair of opposing shoulders. In the first sidewall, a series of extension blocks creates a pair of concentric rings. In the second sidewall, a different configuration of extension blocks may be present. The second sidewall has alternating extension blocks where one of the blocks has a portion that is located radially inward of the other block.
