Publication number: 20110251005Abstract: A roller chain comprising pins, bushes, rollers, inner fishplates and outer fishplates. Two bushes are connected to each other by at least two inner fishplates and form a chain link. A roller surrounding each bush is mounted rotatably on its respective bush. Adjacent chain links are connected to each other in an articulated manner as a result of each bush being disposed on a pin protruding beyond both ends of the bush, and two pins surrounded by two successive chain links are connected at least by two outer fishplates. At least a part of the bushes comprises a copper alloy. The bushes are produced in a massive forming process.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 8, 2011Publication date: October 13, 2011Inventors: Detlef Ragnitz, Hans-Juergen Kreipe

Publication number: 20080307767Abstract: In the case of a roller chain having pins, bushes, rollers, inner plates and outer plates, respectively two bushes are connected to each other by at least two inner plates and consequently form a chain link. A roller which surrounds each bush is mounted rotatably on the latter and respectively two successive chain links being connected to each other in an articulated manner in that each bush sits on one of the two ends of the bush protruding beyond the latter and two pins which are surrounded thus by two successive chain links are connected at least by two outer plates. The pins comprise austenitic stainless steel and their surface layer is formed by an S-phase of the austenitic steel which is obtained by nitriding.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 23, 2006Publication date: December 18, 2008Inventors: Detlef Ragnitz, Christophe Cenac

Patent number: 6688396Abstract: An apparatus is provided for conveying electrical power and data signals between a first location and a second location in a well borehole. The apparatus comprises a first drill pipe disposed at the first location, and a second drill pipe disposed at the second location. A second end of the second drill pipe is coupled to a first end of the first drill pipe. A first plurality of conductive pathways such as insulated wires extend longitudinally through at least a portion of the first drill pipe and terminate at the first end. A second plurality of conductive pathways extend longitudinally through at least a portion of the second drill pipe and terminate at the second end. A verification device is operatively associated with the first and second pluralities of conductive pathways for verifying electrical continuity between the first and second pluralities of conductive pathways.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 2001Date of Patent: February 10, 2004Assignee: Baker Hughes IncorporatedInventors: Helmut Floerke, Detlef Ragnitz, Johannes Witte

Patent number: 6439325Abstract: The present invention provides apparatus for power transfer over a nonconductive gap between rotating and non-rotating members of downhole oilfield tools. The gap may contain a non-conductive fluid, such as drilling fluid or oil for operating hydraulic devices in the downhole tool. The downhole tool, in one embodiment, is a drilling assembly wherein a drive shaft is rotated by a downhole motor to rotate the drill bit attached to the bottom end of the drive shaft. A substantially non-rotating sleeve around the drive shaft includes a plurality of independently operated force application members used to exert the force required to maintain and/or alter the drilling direction. In the preferred system, one or more mechanically operated devices such as hydraulic units control the force application members. A transfer device transfers electrical power between the rotating and non-rotating members, and the electric power is converted directly to mechanical power.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 2000Date of Patent: August 27, 2002Assignee: Baker Hughes IncorporatedInventors: Volker Peters, Detlef Ragnitz

Patent number: 6427783Abstract: In general, the present invention provides a modular drilling assembly having a module for contactless power and data transfer over a nonconductive gap between rotating and non-rotating members of a steering module. The gap usually contains a non-conductive fluid, such as drilling fluid, or oil for operating hydraulic devices in the downhole tool. The downhole tool in one embodiment is a modular drilling assembly wherein a drive shaft is rotated by a downhill motor to rotate a drill bit attached to the bottom end of the drive shaft. A substantially non-rotating sleeve around the drive shaft includes at least one electrically-operated device. The drilling assembly is modular in that it includes at least one steering module at the bottom end of the drilling assembly that has at least one steering device module that provides power to the force application member.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 2001Date of Patent: August 6, 2002Assignee: Baker Hughes IncorporatedInventors: Volker Krueger, Hans Rehbock, Thomas Kruspe, Johannes Witte, Detlef Ragnitz

Patent number: 6393820Abstract: A chain such as these used in a fork lift truck carriage lifting mechanism has a plurality of interleaved link assemblies each having a pair of outer link plates and a plurality of intermediate link plates. The outer link plate has a strength less than that of any intermediate link plate when measured in an unassembled state. The reduced strength may be achieved by a reduction in thickness or head area of the link plate. The outer link plates may have a stiffness of 60% to 90% of the average stiffness across the chain and a first group of intermediate link plates of certain chain configurations have a stiffness of 70% to 90% of the average stiffness of the chain. The invention provides for a chain in which the load is more evenly shared between link plates and allows a single composite chain to be replaced by two smaller chains without loss of load capacity.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 2001Date of Patent: May 28, 2002Assignee: Renold PlcInventors: Steven M. Varnam, Detlef Ragnitz, Michael Charles Christmas
