Publication number: 20080143139Abstract: A vehicle door has an easy exit feature that holds the vehicle door in a desired latched position by applying a latching torque with a controllable damper. An evaluation and control unit detects the desired latched positions by evaluating an instantaneous door movement sensed by a sensor system, and accordingly actuates the damper. The evaluation and control unit releases the latched position after a corresponding activation has been detected. The easy exit feature is embodied as a variable latching function, and applies a maximum holding force to the vehicle door by way of the damper and locks the vehicle door in the desired latched position.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 7, 2005Publication date: June 19, 2008Applicant: Daimlerchrysler AGInventors: Wolf-Dietrich Bauer, Simon Kern, Juergen Maas, Bernd Seiler

Publication number: 20070198190Abstract: A utility vehicle has an electronically controlled drive train which has at least one drive unit, one steering system and one braking system. In addition, the motor vehicle has a maneuvering assistance system with a display device, an input device and a control system. The display device displays an actual orientation and an actual position of the vehicle as well as the relatively close surroundings of the vehicle on a monitor. The input device inputs a desired orientation and a desired position for the vehicle. The control system processes a maneuvering algorithm and at the same time actuates the drive train to transfer the vehicle from its actual orientation and actual position into its desired orientation and desired position taking into account the vehicle surroundings.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 19, 2004Publication date: August 23, 2007Applicant: DaimierChrysler AGInventors: Wolf-Dietrich Bauer, Peter Ebel, Albert Kirchmann, Christian Mayer, Andreas Schwarzhaupt, Gernot Spiegelberg, Wolfgang Stahl, Armin Sulzmann

Publication number: 20070027581Abstract: The present invention relates to a control system (7) for a vehicle combination composed of a towing vehicle and a trailer for picking up, transporting and setting down a frame which can be positioned on supports and have a payload loaded onto it, wherein a path computer (8) is provided which calculates a path which, in order to pick up the frame (4) calculates a path which leads the trailer backward under the frame. A particularly reliable system is obtained if a first input device (10) is provided, by means of which an actual position and an actual orientation of the frame can be input into the path computer (8), and if a second input device (11) is provided by means of which an actual position and an actual orientation of the trailer can be input into the path computer (8).Type: ApplicationFiled: February 23, 2005Publication date: February 1, 2007Applicant: DaimerlerChrysler AGInventors: Wolf-Dietrich Bauer, Christian Mayer, Andreas Schwarzhaupt, Gernot Spiegelberg

Publication number: 20060220801Abstract: A safety device for, in particular, nonrailborne vehicles, having a monitoring device to monitor a hazardous area and additionally the road area, located on the opposite side of the hazardous area viewed from the vehicle and adjoining the hazardous area. Obstacles in the hazardous area and/or road area are detected. An output signal is brought about if an obstacle which prevents the hazardous area being traveled through completely has been detected.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 23, 2003Publication date: October 5, 2006Applicant: DaimlerChrysler AGInventors: Wolf-Dietrich Bauer, Christian Mayer, Andreas Schwarzhaupt, Gernot Spiegelberg

Publication number: 20060074538Abstract: A steering system with a steering adjustment unit, based on the “steer by wire” concept, with an additional system for an automatic emergency stopping maneuver is provided. In situations that cannot be controlled by the driver, preset data from a preset or storage arrangement are transmitted to a braking system and a steering adjustment unit, with the vehicle then being braked and steered according to the preset data.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 3, 2003Publication date: April 6, 2006Applicant: DaimlerChrysler AGInventors: Wolf-Dietrich Bauer, Jochen Horwath, Andreas Schwarzhaupt, Gernot Spiegelberg

Patent number: 6906623Abstract: A method and apparatus for registering travel data of a motor vehicle with an electronically actuated drive train, utilizing a sensor device for determining actual vehicle data which relates to the travel dynamics, a time-registration device for generating time data, a position-determining device for determining position data of a motor vehicle, and a storage device for at least temporarily storing the actual vehicle, time and position data. The storage device is coupled to operator control elements for the driver-end generation of activation signals for influencing the drive train, and an actuation device for the activation-signal-dependent generation of actuation signals for the drive train. The storage device is designed to store at least temporarily the activation signals and the actuation signals.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2001Date of Patent: June 14, 2005Assignee: DaimlerChrysler AGInventors: Wolf-Dietrich Bauer, Christian Mayer, Andreas Schwarzhaupt, Gernot Spiegelberg

Publication number: 20050029864Abstract: A brake system for a vehicle can be operated without a driver. It has a service brake device, a parking brake device and an emergency braking device. At least the wheel brake devices of the wheels of one axle of the vehicle have emergency brake actuators which switchover the assigned wheel brake devices into the braking state as a result of the triggering of an emergency braking operation. The emergency braking operation can be triggered either manually by means of an emergency operator control device or automatically by means of a monitoring device if the latter has detected an unacceptable operating state of the vehicle in the driverless operating mode.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 3, 2002Publication date: February 10, 2005Inventors: Wolf-Dietrich Bauer, Carsten Haemmerling, Andreas Schwarzhaupt, Gernot Spiegelberg, Wolfgang Stahl

Patent number: 6665596Abstract: A control system for a vehicle having a plurality of signal processing levels and actuators, in particular for brake, steering, engine and gearbox, for converting actuation signals and a method for controlling a vehicle. The system employs the following levels: an input level for continuous stipulations or an input level for discrete stipulations and an automation level for generating setpoint value signals, a predictive level and/or a reactive level for correcting the setpoint value signals, a coordination level for converting the set point value signals into actuation signals, and an execution level with the actuators. The actuators are connected to one another and to the coordination level by a fault-tolerant, redundant and bidirectional databus. Measures for redundant signal processing are taken, and data is transmitted in a fault-tolerant, redundant and bidirectional fashion.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 2002Date of Patent: December 16, 2003Assignee: DaimlerChrysler AGInventors: Wolf-Dietrich Bauer, Carsten Hämmerling, Albert Kirchmann, Andreas Schwarzhaupt, Gernot Spiegelberg, Wolfgang Stahl, Udo Weitze
