  • Publication number: 20080120012
Abstract: A method and a device for operating an internal combustion engine having a plurality of cylinder banks which allow a simple diagnosis of a faulty deactivation of the gas exchange of at least one cylinder bank, or a simple determination of the ambient pressure. In the process, in addition to at least one first cylinder bank having activated gas exchange of at least one cylinder, a deactivation of the gas exchange of all cylinders of at least one second cylinder bank is initiated in at least one operating state of the internal combustion engine. The at least one second cylinder bank is assigned a separate intake tract. In the at least one operating state, a variable that is characteristic for the pressure in the intake tract of the at least one second cylinder bank is measured and evaluated for the presence of undesired pressure pulsations.

  • Publication number: 20080027623
Abstract: In order to achieve at least a short-term reduction of the torque of an internal combustion engine (2), which comprises a range as widely adjustable as possible, causes a slight as possible thermal stress on the components of the attached exhaust gas system (5) and allows for a reduction of the fuel consumption, it is proposed that in addition to the cut off of the fuel-delivery control phase of a cylinder (4), an intake valve (17) associated with the cylinder is cut off.

  • Publication number: 20080010968
Abstract: A steam turbine (10) with heating steam extraction includes a plurality of turbine sections (11, 12, 15, 17, 19, 20) for the high pressure, medium pressure and low pressure ranges, which turbine sections (11, 12, 15, 17, 19, 20) are arranged in each case in a separate casing and connected by a common shaft (28), and which includes one high pressure turbine (11), at least one subsequent medium pressure turbine (15, 17), which is connected on the outlet side to two series-connected heaters (21, 24) of a district heating circuit (27), and one subsequent low pressure turbine (19, 20). Safe control of high volumetric flows of steam is achieved by providing, for heating steam extraction, two medium pressure turbines (15, 17), which operate in parallel, in separate casings, and which are connected on the outlet side in each case to one of the heaters (21, 24).

  • Patent number: 7246594
Abstract: A method for operating an internal combustion engine having a plurality of cylinder banks provides a cylinder cut-off using at least a reduced ignition angle retardation shift. In this context, at least one first cylinder bank is configured such that it is at least partially able to be cut off. Immediately before a cut off or immediately after a reactivation of at least one cylinder of the at least one first cylinder bank, a first output variable is set for the at least one first cylinder bank and a second output variable is set for at least one second cylinder bank. The first output variable and the second output variable are set differently from each other in such a way that an average of the first and second output variables is equivalent to a predetermined output variable of the internal combustion engine.

  • Publication number: 20070113820
Abstract: A method and a device for operating an internal combustion engine having multiple cylinders allows for an operating state of the internal combustion engine to be switched over as quickly as possible following the receipt of a switchover request. For this purpose, at least one intake or exhaust valve of a cylinder is switched off or at least one switched-off intake or exhaust valve of the cylinder is switched on again in at least one operating state of the internal combustion engine in response to the switchover request. With the receipt of a switchover request, a delay time or a delay crank angle is ascertained which is required for switching off or switching on again the intake or exhaust valve of one of the cylinders.

  • Publication number: 20070089709
Abstract: A method and a device for operating an internal combustion engine, which make possible a defined and reliable cutting in or cutting off a gas-exchange valve of a cylinder. In at least one operating state, at least one intake valve or exhaust valve of a cylinder is cut off or at least one cut-off intake valve or exhaust valve of the cylinder is cut in again, the at least one intake valve or exhaust valve being opened and/or closed using an operating element; and the operating element being switched off or switched on again using a coupling element. A response delay time is ascertained which is required for the operation of the coupling element for the switching off or switching on again the operating element. Furthermore, a switching time window is ascertained within which the operation of the coupling element is desired. Moreover, it is checked whether the switching time window is greater than the response delay time.

  • Publication number: 20070028599
Abstract: A method and a device for operating an internal combustion engine (1) having an exhaust gas treatment system (45), in particular in a non-firing operation of the internal combustion engine (1) are described, which make it possible to implement a different request for change in the temperature gradient of the exhaust gas treatment system (45), in particular via switchover from half-engine operation to full-engine operation. In the event of a request for a change in the temperature gradient of the exhaust gas treatment system (45), a charge cycle state of at least one cylinder (11, 12, . . . 18) of the internal combustion engine (1) is modified.

  • Publication number: 20070015629
Abstract: A method and a device for operating a drive unit provide a switch between half-engine operation and full-engine operation. A switch takes place between two operating states of a first component of the drive unit as a function of a first performance quantity of the drive unit. A switch takes place between two operating states of a second component of the drive unit as a function of a second performance quantity of the drive unit. A check is performed whether switching between two operating states of the second component results in a shift of the first performance quantity over a switching threshold for switching between two operating states of the first component, and if so, the switch between the two operating states of second component is delayed until a switch between the two operating states of first component has occurred.

  • Patent number: 7062372
Abstract: A method and an arrangement for controlling the drive unit of a vehicle make possible the jolt-free enablement of a rapid actuating path (5) for the conversion of a desired value for an output quantity of the drive unit. The desired value for the output quantity of the drive unit is pregiven. Depending upon the operating state of the drive unit, an actual value for the output quantity is caused to track the desired value via a slow actuating path (1) or the rapid actuating path (5). With a transition from the slow actuating path (1) to the rapid actuating path (5), the desired value, starting from the wanted value, is first set equal to the actual value and thereafter is limited in its change and is again brought back to the wanted value.

  • Patent number: 6994653
Abstract: A method for controlling an internal combustion engine of a vehicle makes possible an acceleration of the shift operation especially of an automatic transmission or of an automated manually shifted transmission of the vehicle. In a shift operation, an operating state quantity of the engine is pregiven. This operating state quantity can be especially an engine output torque (MDES) or an engine rpm (NMOTDES). Furthermore, a torque reserve (MRES1, MRES2, MRES3) is pregiven for a rapid adjustment of the pregiven operating state quantity.

  • Patent number: 6904357
Abstract: A method and an arrangement control the output quantity (NMOTACT) of a drive unit (1) of a vehicle. The method and arrangement make possible a time-optimal control strategy especially during a shift operation of the vehicle. The output quantity (NMOTACT) is adjusted with the aid of an adjusting quantity (MDES) and tracks an input value (NMOTDES). In at least one pregiven operating state of the vehicle, the actuating quantity (NMOTDES) is brought to a pregiven limit value (MO, MU) when a pregiven control deviation (dnv) of the output quantity (NMOTACT) is exceeded.
