  • Patent number: 9490930
Abstract: A method for an optical communication system and an optical communication system comprising a pump source configured to generate a pump signal having rotating polarization, a polarization sensitive receiver for receiving the optical signal having a polarization tracking cut-off frequency, wherein the polarization of the pump signal is configured to rotate at a predetermined frequency of polarization rotation and the frequency of polarization rotation of the pump signal is higher than the polarization tracking cut-off frequency of the receiver. Suitable for mitigation of cross-polarization modulation (XPolM) related effects in coherent polarization multiplexed quadrature phase shift keying (CP-QPSK) systems.

  • Publication number: 20140126915
Abstract: Systems and methods for reducing modal group delay when transmitting a plurality of optical signals over a transmission line that supports a plurality of modes are disclosed. The modes are converted at a plurality of positions along the transmission line so the signals in the end have minimal group delay. The method comprises the steps of receiving N number of optical signals into a multimode fiber having at least N modes, transmitting each of N signals into a mode of the at least N modes of the multimode fiber, and converting each of the N modes into another of the N modes at N positions along the transmission line, such that the net modal group delay generated between the N signals along the transmission line is minimized.

  • Publication number: 20130016966
Abstract: The invention describes method and an arrangement for transmitting an orthogonal frequency diversity multiplex signal via an optical filter. OFDM channels located near an edge of an OFDM spectrum are copied and shifted to an opposite edge of the OFDM spectrum and transmitted via the optical filter. At the receiver symbols are derived from original and the copied OFDM channels. Then the symbols having a better signal quality are elected for further processing.

  • Patent number: 7865080
Abstract: In order to reduce mutual interferences between POLMUX and signals, the signals are transmitted with differed to each other carrying signals, thereby making it possible to obtain the circular polarization of each resulting POLMUX signal. Each second POLMUX signal is transmissible with an opposite circular polarization. In order to reduce also interferences when only one modulated data signal is transmitted through a POLMUX channel, a polarization plane of modulated data signals of each second POLMUX channel is turned at 45°. In a variant, polarization multiplex signals are produces and the resulting polarizations thereof in adjacent channels are perpendicular to each other.

  • Publication number: 20100303473
Abstract: A receiver contains a phase demodulator and an electronic dispersion compensator that is electrically connected to the phase demodulator. The phase demodulator contains a delay that is equal to or less than 1 bit. Ideally the delay is an adjustable delay. Further, a method for operating the receiver described above is discussed.

  • Patent number: 7715730
Abstract: The polarization-multiplexed signal contains two data signals that are orthogonally polarized in relation to one another. Their carrier signals are derived from the same source and thus have the same wavelength. The phase difference between the carrier signals, is adjusted or regulated in such a way that it corresponds to 90°. The phase difference of the carrier signals permits the susceptibility to polarization mode dispersion to be significantly reduced.

  • Publication number: 20060024064
Abstract: The transmission of a data signal (DS) in the form of data packets takes place by means of angular modulation, preferably two or three stage difference phase modulation. The header (HEAD) is transmitted by means of polarization modulation. An additional channel formed in this way is also available for the transmission of additional information. To separate the header (HEAD), the multiplex signal (DHS) is aligned in a specific polarization level, so that the header can be separated without any problem. A new header can be added without having to convert the data signal into an electrical signal beforehand.
