  • Patent number: 4687729
Abstract: Printing plates made from ceramic-coated, steel-based, lithographic plate precursors. The printing plate of this invention is a lithographic plate comprising a steel substrate, an adhesion promoting layer overlying the steel substrate, a ceramic layer overlying the adhesion promoting layer, and a photosensitive layer coated over the ceramic layer. The steel-based plate is more durable than aluminum based plates.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 25, 1985
Date of Patent: August 18, 1987
Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company
Inventors: Donald E. Cadwell, Larry A. Brey
  • Patent number: 4542089
Abstract: Lithographic printing substrates ordinarily require a mechanical or chemical graining of aluminum surfaces. Such substrates are difficult and expensive to make. It has been found that lithographically suitable substrates can be prepared by the firing of monobasic phosphate solutions with dispersed particles therein. The presence of reactive metallic oxides enhances the properties of the surface.

Date of Patent: September 17, 1985

  • Patent number: 4420549
Abstract: Lithographic printing substrates ordinarily require a mechanical or chemical graining of aluminum surfaces. Such substrates are difficult and expensive to make. It has been found that a lithographically suitable substrate on an aluminum surface can be provided by the firing of monoaluminum phosphate solutions on substrates having an aluminum surface.
