Patent number: 9684436Abstract: Methods and systems for providing graphical user interfaces are described. To provide greater access and consolidation to frequently used items in the graphical user interface, a userbar is established which includes a plurality of item representations. To permit a greater number of items to reside in the userbar, a magnification function can be provided which magnifies items within the userbar when they are proximate the cursor associated with the graphical user interface.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 2014Date of Patent: June 20, 2017Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Bas Ording, Steven P. Patent number: 9201564Abstract: A method referred to as visual window browsing allows a user to browse through windows on their desktop. Aspects of the invention include responsive to a command, moving open windows to form a visual stack with the topmost window in the stack being in focus. Responsive to a browse the windows in the visual stack can be browsed, where the topmost window moves to the bottom of the visual stack and the other windows move higher in the stack, with the second highest window becoming the topmost window and being in focus. Successive browse commands causes this behavior to repeat allowing a user to cycle through each of the open windows.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2012Date of Patent: December 1, 2015Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Ales Holecek, Charles W Stabb, Hillel N Cooperman, Jeffrey W Pettiross, Mark R Ligameri, Kanwal Vedbrat, Donald J Lindsay

Publication number: 20150310662Abstract: A three dimensional avatar of a person may be created based on a plurality of images of a person in a physical environment. The three dimensional avatar may have dimensions that are scaled based on dimensions of the person. The three dimensional avatar may be imported into a virtual environment, such as a virtual gaming environment.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 11, 2015Publication date: October 29, 2015Inventors: Blaise Aguera Y. Publication number: 20140254921Abstract: The claimed subject matter provides a system and/or a method that facilitates generating a model from a 3-dimensional (3D) object assembled from 2-dimensional (2D) content. A content aggregator can construct a 3D object from a collection of two or more 2D images each depicting a real entity in a physical real world, wherein the 3D object is constructed by combining the two or more 2D images based upon a respective image perspective. A 3D virtual environment can allow exploration of the 3D object. A model component can extrapolate a true 3D geometric model from the 3D object, wherein the true 3D geometric model is generated to include scaling in proportion to a size within the physical real world.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 23, 2014Publication date: September 11, 2014Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Blaise Aguera Y. Patent number: 8799813Abstract: A method and system for providing menu tools directly from an operating system includes a computer system having a user interface including a display, a cursor, and a cursor control device, and an operating system. Menu tools are provided to one or more application windows. A menu item associated with a menu tool represents an available operating system function and an interactive icon associated with the menu item may be placed in a toolbar region in one of the application windows for access to the function. A special operating mode is activated for selecting menu items for use in the toolbar and making the function associated with the menu item available to the application by moving the menu item to the toolbar region. The menu item is represented as an interactive icon once the special operating mode is activated. The operating system function associated with the menu item is made available to the application window directly from the operating system by interaction with the icon.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2003Date of Patent: August 5, 2014Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Steven P. Jobs, Donald J. Lindsay, Tim Wasko

Patent number: 8640045Abstract: Methods and systems for providing graphical user interfaces are described. To provide greater access and consolidation to frequently used items in the graphical user interface, a user bar is established which includes a plurality of item representations. To permit a greater ease of access to open application windows, a context menu listing open windows associated with an item representation can be generated in response to a user input received by the item representation.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 2011Date of Patent: January 28, 2014Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Bas Ording, Steven P. Patent number: 8631341Abstract: The techniques and mechanisms described herein are directed to a method for managing and selecting one out of large set of open tabs in a tabbed browser. Browsing software is configured to provide a quick pick user-interface that visually displays the content of the several tabs, such as a by displaying a thumbnail for each tab. The thumbnails allow a user to easily distinguish between each opened tab. The browsing software may also be configured to recognize a user selection from within the quick pick user-interface and in response, switch back to a tabbed window view and display the selected tab in that view. The browsing software may adjust the tab row so that the selected tab is positioned in a favorable position within the tab row. In addition, within the quick pick user-interface, the user may reposition the thumbnails and/or close the thumbnails, thus affecting the associated tab in the tab row.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 2009Date of Patent: January 14, 2014Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Aaron J. Patent number: 8504937Abstract: A computer-human interface manages the available space of a computer display in a manner which reduces clutter and confusion caused by multiple open windows. The interface includes a user-selectable mode of operation in which only those windows associated with the currently active task are displayed on the computer monitor. All other windows relating to non-active tasks are minimized by reducing them in size or replacing them with a representative symbol, such as an icon, so that they occupy a minimal amount of space on the monitor's screen. When a user switches from the current task to a new task, by selecting a minimized window, the windows associated with the current task are automatically minimized as the window pertaining to the new task is displayed at its normal size. As a result, the user is only presented with the window that relates to the current task of interest, and clutter provided by non-active tasks is removed.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 2005Date of Patent: August 6, 2013Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Steven P. Patent number: 8429562Abstract: A computer user interface is provided which allows a user to adjust the size of icons based upon a user's preference or based upon a characteristic of the objects that the icons represent. When the icon sizing is performed according to a user preference, a relative sizing scheme or an arbitrary icon sizing scheme can be employed to variably size icons. Providing the ability to size icons in such a manner allows users to represent a user's categorization of object importance, for example.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2006Date of Patent: April 23, 2013Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Arnaud Gourdol, Donald J.
