  • Patent number: 6148987
Abstract: A coin identification apparatus includes a pair of series connected coils driven by an oscillator. Frequency and/or amplitude characteristics of the oscillator output generated by the passage of a distinct token between the pair of coils are compared with prestored characteristics of acceptable tokens. A processor, upon detecting a match between the detected and pre-stored frequency and amplitude characteristics, activates a motor to rotate a coin receptacle to a coin return position discharging the token to the user, simultaneously causes a door latch pin to separate from a door latch allowing opening of the door to permit access to the interior of the enclosure in which the coin identification apparatus is mounted and selects a new total vend value from memory associated with a detected token.

  • Patent number: 6015037
Abstract: A coin identification apparatus includes a pair of spaced series connected elongated, planar coils driven by an oscillator. Maximum frequency and amplitude values of the oscillator output generated by the passage of a coin between the pair of coils are compared with prestored frequency and amplitude values of acceptable coins. A processor, upon detecting a match between the detected and pre-stored frequency and amplitude values, activates a motor to rotate a coin receptacle to a position discharging coins into a storage receptacle and simultaneously causing a door latch pin to separate from a door latch allowing opening of the door to permit vending of an article from the enclosure in which the coin identification apparatus is mounted.

  • Patent number: 4693419
Abstract: An automatic control apparatus and method for sprinkling water over a predetermined area includes a control apparatus having first and second sensors disposed underground within the predetermined area, with the first sensor being disposed in a horizontal orientation immediately below the plant root level and the second sensor being disposed in a horizontal position a predetermined distance below the first sensor. The predetermined distance between the first and second sensors is selected to provide a measurement of the wilt-point moisture content of the type of soil found within the predetermined area. The first and second sensors are provided to measure the impedance of the soil therebetween, with the impedance being proportional to the moisture content of the soil. The output of the first and second sensors is compared with a predetermined electrical reference value established for the wilt-point moisture content of the type of soil found within the predetermined area.

  • Patent number: 4107604
Abstract: A position indicating device for providing a generally linear output in response to displacement; the system includes a Hall effect device and apparatus for providing a response therein in accordance to displacement of a movable stylus or plunger and the method of making the same.

  • Patent number: 4086531
Abstract: An alternator-battery electrical system test apparatus which, in one modification, includes a four stage voltage level sensing system, each stage being operative in response to a particular condition of the electrical system under test. The first stage senses the filtered and unfiltered output of the alternator to provide a pulsed output which provides an indication of any diode failure or winding failure in the alternator. The remaining three stages sense the voltage output from the alternator as compared to a fixed reference, each particular voltage condition providing an indication of a preselected electrical condition within the circuit. The entire system is calibrated by a single calibrating resistor.
