  • Patent number: 7179952
Abstract: An absorbent article for absorbing body liquids, comprising a unitary system of microlayered film constructed and arranged to carry out the multiple functions of liquid intake, liquid uptake and distribution, liquid retention and liquid barrier requisite for such an absorbent article. The unitary system comprises a series of sequentially arranged topside, inside and bottom side regions having different properties needed to perform the functions of the absorbent article.

  • Patent number: 5599420
Abstract: A patterned nonwoven fabric comprising polymeric strands which include a primary polymeric component and are bonded together without the use of compression, but instead with a heat activated adhesive polymeric component which adheres the respective primary components together. The fabric has an embossed pattern of densified areas separated by high loft areas. Preferably, the strands are continuous, crimped, multicomponent filaments. Also preferably, the nonwoven fabric is laminated to a liquid barrier film to form an outercover material for products such as personal care absorbent articles, and the like. Methods for making these materials are also encompassed.

  • Patent number: 5462541
Abstract: A diaper or absorbent article comprising a topsheet, a backsheet, an absorbent between the topsheet and backsheet, and an elevating device for spacing the topsheet above the absorbent to form a pocket-like shape. The topsheet can have an opening and the absorbent can have a hole therein, both of which receive and isolate waste material from the wearer.

  • Patent number: 5176672
Abstract: A diaper or absorbent article comprising a topsheet, a backsheet, an absorbent between the topsheet and backsheet, and an elevating device for spacing the topsheet above the absorbent to form a pocket-like shape. The topsheet can have a generally U-shaped opening and the absorbent can have a hole therein, both of which receive and isolate waste material from the wearer. The absorbent side edges can have portions that are gatherable by elastic members attached in a stretched condition.

  • Patent number: 5037409
Abstract: An absorbent article including an absorbent body capable of absorbing a liquid and a flow-modulating layer in liquid communication with the absorbent body. The flow-modulating layer is formed from hydrophilic meltblown fibers having an average diameter of from about 20 to about 60 microns. The flow-modulating layer has an average pore size of from about 90 to about 300 microns and a basis weight of from about 50 to about 600 grams per square meter. The average pore size of the absorbent body is less than the average pore size of the flow-modulating layer. The flow-modulating layer is capable of rapidly receiving multiple liquid insults and distributing the liquid in its X-Y plane prior to said liquid being absorbed by the absorbent body.

  • Patent number: 4842596
Abstract: A method for making a breathable elastomeric laminar fabric, the material produced thereby and a disposable absorbent garment incorporating the material as either an outer cover or gathers at the leg and waist openings. The method comprises the steps of sandwiching a liquid impermeable elastomeric film or nonwoven carrier sheet between a pair of nonwoven facing sheets while the carrier sheet is in at least a partially stretched condition and bonding the facing sheets together through the carrier sheet at spaced apart sites, simultaneously forming breathable apertures while laminating the carrier and facing sheets together at the spaced apart sites. Creped facing sheets may also be used and bonded together while the film is in a partially stretched or unstretched condition.

  • Patent number: 4834738
Abstract: An anatomically form-fitting, generally self-adjusting disposable absorbent garment comprises a breathable elastomeric nonwoven laminar outer cover, resiliently stretchable preferably in a cross-body direction from about 20% to about 200%, including a pair of leg openings, front and rear waist sections together defining a waist opening, a crotch section situated between the leg openings and front and rear panels separated by the crotch section. An absorbent insert structure, substantially superposable on the front and rear panels and the crotch section, includes a liquid impermeable barrier and a liquid permeable bodyside liner, with an absorbent composite disposed therebetween. Longitudinally opposed ends of the absorbent insert are attached to the waist sections, integrating the insert into the outer cover while allowing substantially unrestricted functional stretchability thereof.
