Publication number: 20240055789Abstract: An electrical terminal includes a contact partially surrounded by a hood. In an embodiment, the contact has a deflectable contact beam and an indentation with which a male terminal engages. In an embodiment, the hood has a polarization rib having at least one flap which is configured to expand the seal. The electrical terminal is used with a connector assembly having a housing forward of a seal and a seal cover rearward thereof. A first length is defined between ends of the portion of the hood that surrounds the contact and a second length is defined between the ends of the seal. In an embodiment, the first length is a minimum of 1.1 times the second length.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 22, 2021Publication date: February 15, 2024Inventors: Yves Le Pottier, Dwaraganathan Bhagyanathan-Sathianathan, Suraj Handithavalli Purushothama, Kevin C. Patent number: 11075479Abstract: An electrical terminal fitting includes a body and a covering. The body is formed from a first material and includes a connection section and a contacting section with the contacting section having a flexible contact beam and an opposing stationary beam for receiving a male pin of a mating terminal. The covering is formed from a second material having a higher tensile strength than the first material and is secured to the body. The covering includes a stiffening beam and a support beam that are spaced apart from the flexible contact beam that provide increased normal force to the flexible contact beam upon engagement of the flexible contact beam with the stiffening beam.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 2017Date of Patent: July 27, 2021Assignee: Molex, LLCInventors: Dwaraganathan Bhagyanathan Sathianathan, Yves LePottier

Patent number: 10886664Abstract: In some embodiments, an electrical terminal includes a contact formed of a first material having a tensile strength, and a hood surrounding the contact, the hood formed of a second material having a tensile strength. The tensile strength of the second material is greater than the tensile strength of the first material. The contact and hood have cooperating retention features for securing the contact to the hood, and the hood provides strengthening features for improving the mechanical properties of the contact. The electrical terminal is mounted in a connector assembly. The electrical terminal has features which prevent or minimize damage to a seal of the connector assembly.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 2018Date of Patent: January 5, 2021Assignee: Molex, LLCInventors: Dwaraganathan Bhagyanathan Sathianathan, Yves Lepottier
