  • Patent number: 7234989
Abstract: An artificial eye for use in animated plush toys has a one-piece eyeball and lid that are integrally molded. The eye further includes a shaped member and a retaining post. A crossplate of the shaped member is preferably curved to correspond to the curvature of the eye, and is operative to animate a portion of plush contiguous to the eye. The portion of plush to be animated has an attached elongated flap which includes a forked free end wherein each branch of the forked end includes a hole. The elongated flap is inserted into the doll's body or head cavity, and each branch is tucked under the curved crossplate of the shaped member. The retaining post engages the holes near the ends of each branch, thereby fixedly retaining the flap to the eye. When the eye is rotated the plush portion also moves thereby simulating movement of an eyelid.

  • Publication number: 20060270312
Abstract: A very compact interactive animated character is provided that provides highly life-like and intelligent seeming interaction with the user thereof. The animated character can take the form of a small animal-like creature having a variety of moving body parts including a smile/emotion assembly which are coordinated to exhibit life-like emotional states by precisely controlling and synchronizing their movements in response to external sensed conditions. The animated character also includes sound generating circuitry to generate speech sounds as well as sounds associated with various emotional states, which are coordinated with a lip sync assembly simulating speech mouth movement. The drive system utilizes first and second reversible motors which are able to power and precisely coordinate the lip sync assembly producing speech mouth movement, with the movable parts and the smile/emotion assembly to produce life-like interactions and emotional expressions.

  • Publication number: 20060228429
Abstract: The invention relates to a novel pharmaceutical composition and to the method of producing same from the fruits of the royal palm (Roystonea regia) in order to prevent and/or treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostatitis as well as alopecia and hirsutism. The inventive composition comprises a mixture of free fatty acids and/or the esters thereof, within a range of between 8 and 28 carbon atoms, in particular between 8 and 18 carbon atoms, and, more specifically, saturated straight-chain free fatty acids with 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 carbon atoms and mono-unsaturated free fatty acids with 16:1 and 18:1 carbon atoms. The inventive method of producing the aforementioned composition comprises the drying and crushing of the fruits, with optional basic hydrolysis, and, subsequently, selective extraction in organic solvents.

  • Publication number: 20020096885
Abstract: A drive pinion assembly 10 for a starter motor has a drive plate 12 adapted to be driven by a shaft of the motor. The drive plate has axially extending projections which co-operate with corresponding projections on a pinion 14. The projections are separated circumferentially by fingers of a resiliently compressible member to reduce impact loading on the pinion 14 as it engages teeth of a ring gear.

  • Patent number: 5998895
Abstract: An improved drive arrangement for a starter motor includes a rubber cushion between a drive plate and a pinion gear. The rubber cushion has seals at inner and outer locations which seal against the drive plate. In this way, the area between the drive plate and the rubber cushion is sealed to prevent contaminants from reaching the area and harming the connection between the drive plate and cushion.

  • Patent number: 5674088
Abstract: A connector for releasably securing electrical terminals which includes a body having a first cavity in which an electrical terminal may be selectively received and a second cavity in which a spacer member may be slidingly received. The spacer member is engageable with a retention element formed along a first partition separating the first and second cavities so as to urge the retention element into engagement with a terminal selectively seated within the first cavity. The spacer member is also retained by a separate retention element in different portions within the second cavity dependent upon the proper seating of a terminal within the first cavity. The connector further includes a housing in which the body may be selectively received and quickly released by a yieldable retention element extending along an outer portion of the connector body.

  • Patent number: 4136679
Abstract: Process for rotation of the fetal head during childbirth, using a force through the agency of spatulas by applying the principle of wheel rotation, namely for rotating the head in any of its presentations of position, to reduce fetal and maternal lesions, as well as the necessity of cesarean sections, and to facilitate manipulation by less skilled personnel; the process comprising rotating the head by applying the force at a point corresponding to the zone of the occipital bone, utilizing the axis of rotation which passes through the junction of the cervical column with the fetal occiput, and using the spatulas of specific shapes. An instrument is also disclosed for the rotation of the fetal head, comprising a pistol-grip handle, and a pedical terminating in a solid scoop, the latter presenting a pelvic curvature and a cephalic curvature, the axis of the tip of the scoop having a specific angular inclination relative to the longitudinal axis of the instrument.
