  • Patent number: 5004479
Abstract: Stable microemulsion fuel compositions are provided which comprise (a) a hydrocarbon fuel such as diesel fuel, jet fuel, gasoline, or fuel oil; (b) water; and (c) cosurfactant combination of methanol and a fatty acid partially neutralized by a nitrogenous base. The compositions of the invention exhibit a high degree of phase stability even over wide variations of temperature, and reduce combustion emissions.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 9, 1986
Date of Patent: April 2, 1991
    Assignee: Arco Chemical Technology, Inc.
Inventors: Steven G. Schon, Edward A. Hazbun
  • Patent number: 4827071
Abstract: The invention relates to a novel mixed ion and electron conducting catalytic ceramic membrane and to its use in hydrocarbon oxidation and or hydrogenation processes, the membrane consists of two layers, layer 1 which is an impervious mixed ion and electron conducting ceramic layer and layer 2 which is a porous catalyst-containing ion conducting ceramic layer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 15, 1988
Date of Patent: May 2, 1989
    Assignee: ARCO Chemical Technology, Inc.
    Inventor: Edward A. Hazbun

  • Patent number: 4770670
Abstract: Stable microemulsion compositions are provided especially fire resistant fuel compositions comprising (a) a hydrocarbon such as diesel fuel, jet fuel, gasoline, or fuel oil; (b) water; and (c) a novel cosurfactant combination of a phenyl alcohol and an ionic or nonionic surfactant. Methods are provided for destabilization and separation of the microemulsions directly before use.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 22, 1986
Date of Patent: September 13, 1988
    Assignee: Arco Chemical Company
Inventors: Edward A. Hazbun, Steven G. Schon
  • Patent number: 4744796
Abstract: Stable microemulsion fuel compositions are provided which comprise (a) a hydrocarbon fuel such as diesel fuel, jet fuel, gasoline, or fuel oil; (b) water and/or methanol; and (c) a novel cosurfactant combination of tertiary butyl alcohol and an ionic or nonionic surfactant. The compositions of the invention exhibit a high degree of phase stability even over wide variations of temperature, greatly improved salt tolerance and reduce smoke particulate and NO.sub.x emissions.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 4, 1986
Date of Patent: May 17, 1988
    Assignee: ARCO Chemical Company
Inventors: Edward A. Hazbun, Steven G. Schon, Roger A. Grey
  • Patent number: 4556749
Abstract: A process for converting normally gaseous olefins to higher hydrocarbons by catalytic oligomerization is disclosed wherein a feedstock comprising said olefins and containing a major amount of alkane diluent is contacted with a heterogeneous acid catalyst to produce said higher hydrocarbons.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 16, 1984
Date of Patent: December 3, 1985
    Assignee: Atlantic Richfield Company
    Inventor: Edward A. Hazbun
