Patent number: 8727260Abstract: A winder assembly is provided and includes two or more cores mounted for rotation on a turret assembly and a web of sheet-type work material is wound around a core. A lay-on roll assembly roller and a core cooperate to define a first nip. A transfer roll assembly includes a roller coupled for rotation to a rail such that the roller and a core cooperate to define a second nip. A cutting means for cutting the work material includes a traverse assembly having a work material guide means. During operation, after cutting work material, the turret assembly indexes a core into a winding position and the work material guide means is moved to the operating position such that the roller coupled to the rail causes the work material to be fed into the second nip and begin winding around the core.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2012Date of Patent: May 20, 2014Assignee: Davis-Standard, LLCInventors: Thomas J. Oravits, John Radovich, Edward J. Smith

Publication number: 20130200200Abstract: In a winder assembly, a turret assembly indexes first and second cores between winding and removal positions. A lay-on roll assembly includes a roller and moves between a retracted position and an engaged position wherein the roller and the core, or the work material wound onto the core, cooperate to form a nip. A cutter is provided for cutting a web of sheet-type work material being wound onto the core. An enveloper assembly is provided and includes a nipping pivot roller that can engage a cut edge of the work material and feed the cut edge into the nip formed between the roller forming part of the lay-on roll assembly and a fresh core thereby allowing the work material to wind around the core.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 2, 2012Publication date: August 8, 2013Applicant: DAVIS-STANDARD, LLCInventors: Thomas J. Patent number: 6951105Abstract: An electro-water reactor steam powered electric generator system includes a steam boiler having water and steam chambers, a water intake pipe and a plurality of steam delivery pipes. An electric resistance heater is mounted under and around the boiler having power leads connected to an auxiliary power source. A plurality of independent steam turbines and connected electric generators are joined respectively to the steam delivery pipes. Most of the electric power delivery leads of the generators are adapted to deliver electric power for industrial and residential usage. At least one of the generator power leads is connected to the electric resistance heater elements. A steam return pipe connects each turbine with a condenser which includes a heat exchanger connected to the water intake pipe. Electric pumps and piping circulate water between the condenser and a body of water. An auxiliary electrical power source is connected to the heater elements.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2004Date of Patent: October 4, 2005Inventor: Edward J. Smith

Patent number: 6663139Abstract: A collapsible cart folds onto itself to provide a convenient, space saving method for transporting bulk goods. The cart has a floor panel and side panels. Each side panel is pivotally attached to two other side panels and the floor panel is pivotally attached to one of the side panels. To collapse the cart, the floor panel is pivoted up and toward the side panel to which it is attached. Opposing side panels are then pulled together causing the sides to offset and the cart to collapse.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1999Date of Patent: December 16, 2003Inventor: Edward J. Smith

Patent number: 5573290Abstract: This is a retaining device for locking pistons that have retractable sliding arms. The retaining device has a first ring portion having interior, exterior, and two end surfaces with screw receiving areas. A receiving area for a holding screw extends from the interior surface to the exterior surface of the first ring portion. A second ring portion also has interior, exterior, and two end surfaces with screw receiving areas. The ring portions are assembled through use of screws to form a collar. A holding screw with a handle, sized to be threaded into the receiving area of the first ring portion, locks the retaining device onto the piston arm.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 1993Date of Patent: November 12, 1996Inventor: Edward J. Patent number: 5465294Abstract: A telephone disaster recovery process for quickly re-establishing long distance telephone service to a telephone LEC office after a telephone central office connected to the LEC office has been rendered inoperable by a disaster is described. The central office is located at a disaster site. The process operates by assessing the disaster and identifying elements of an on-site component needed to address the disaster. The elements of the on-site component are transported to the disaster site, and are mapped to corresponding elements of the inoperable central office. These elements of the on-site component are configured and interconnected according to the mapping to enable the on-site component to functionally emulate the inoperable central office. Then, the on-site component is connected to the LEC office, and is also connected to an off-site component using communication media in a long distance telephone network.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1994Date of Patent: November 7, 1995Assignee: AT&T Corp.Inventors: John M.
