  • Patent number: 10823981
Abstract: A deformable membrane assembly comprises an at least partially flexible fluid-filled envelope, one wall of which is formed by an elastic membrane that is held around its edge by a resiliently bendable supporting ring, a fixed support for the envelope and selectively operable means for causing relative movement between the supporting ring and the support for adjusting the pressure of the fluid in the envelope, thereby to cause the membrane to deform. The bending stiffness of the ring varies round the ring such that upon deformation of the membrane the ring bends variably to control the shape of the membrane to a predefined form. The moving means comprise a plurality of ring-engaging members that are arranged to apply a force to the ring at spaced control points.

  • Patent number: 10816485
Abstract: A method and apparatus for identifying a material in an object. An image of the object generated from energy passing through the object is obtained by a computer system. The computer system estimates attenuations for pixels in a sensor system from the image of the object to form estimated attenuations. The estimated attenuations represent a loss of the energy that occurs from the energy passing through the object. The computer system also identifies the material in the object using the estimated attenuations and known attenuation information for identifying the material in the object.

  • Patent number: 10582791
Abstract: A beverage-retaining insert is used to retain and orient a smaller beverage container, including but not limited to a soda can or beer bottle, within a larger beverage container, including but not limited to a tumbler, thermos, or travel mug. The larger beverage container is herein referred to as the tumbler. The apparatus is also configured to prevent damage and unwanted shifting or movement of the bottle or can relative to the tumbler. The apparatus includes a retaining lip, a tubular brace, a tubular cushion, and a sealing mechanism. The retaining lip positions the apparatus atop a tumbler. The tubular brace enables arrangement of the apparatus within a tumbler. The tubular cushion provides support for a beverage container. The sealing mechanism retains the position of the present invention against the inside of a tumbler. Thus, the apparatus efficiently and effectively retrofits a tumbler to enable support of a beverage container.

  • Publication number: 20200005465
Abstract: Illustrative embodiments are directed to a method and apparatus for evaluating boundary detection in an image. A processed image is received, wherein a detected boundary of an image of an object is identified in the processed image. A Radon transform is applied to the processed image for a plurality of angles to form a processed image histogram corresponding to the detected boundary for each of the plurality of angles. The processed image histogram for each of the plurality of angles and a corresponding ground truth histogram for each of the plurality of angles is normalized to provide a normalized processed image histogram and a normalized ground truth histogram for each of the plurality of angles, wherein the ground truth histogram corresponds to a ground truth boundary of the object for a corresponding angle. An indication of the edges of the normalized processed image histogram for each of the plurality of angles is plotted to form a boundary detection evaluation visualization.

  • Patent number: 10410331
Abstract: A method and apparatus for inspecting an object in a virtual reality environment. Computed tomography scan data for the object is identified. A first group of dimensions for a model of the object and a second group of dimensions for the computed tomography scan data for the object are adjusted such that the first group of dimensions for a first group of features in the model corresponds to the second group of dimensions for a second group of features in the computed tomography scan data. The model and the computed tomography scan data are displayed by a game engine in the virtual reality environment on a display system. Graphical indicators in the virtual reality environment are displayed when a difference is present between features in the model and the features in the computed tomography scan data, enabling identifying the difference between the object and the model of the object.

  • Patent number: 10365396
Abstract: A method and apparatus for displaying a three-dimensional radiograph in a security scanner. A first X-ray image of an object is generated by the security scanner from a first viewpoint. A second X-ray image of the object is generated by the security scanner from a second viewpoint. The first X-ray image and the second X-ray image form a stereogram. The stereogram is displayed by the security scanner on a display system for the security scanner such that a first eye of a viewer sees the first X-ray image in the stereogram and a second eye of the viewer sees the second X-ray image in the stereogram. A parallax between the first viewpoint and the second viewpoint in the stereogram results in a three-dimensional visualization of the object on the display system for the security scanner.
