  • Patent number: 5724444
Abstract: An apparatus comprising a scanner, a histogram preparation circuit, a circuit for analyzing a histogram to calculate a background density of a document and a character density, a circuit for correcting an input pixel density based on the background density and character, and a printer for forming an image based on a corrected pixel density. The histogram preparation circuit prepares a density histogram of each scanning line based on the pixel density input from the scanner, and accumulates a frequency (number of pixels) corresponding to each density. However, the frequency of the histogram, which is prepared up to the previous scanning line, is multiplied by a weighting factor in accordance with the number of scanning lines, and the frequency of the histogram of the present scanning line, is also multiplied by a weighting factor in accordance with the number of scanning lines. Thereafter, the results of the multiplication are added, and the density histogram is prepared.

  • Patent number: 5696595
Abstract: A histogram preparation circuit prepares a density histogram from image data sent from a scanner. A histogram clear discriminating section detects a white peak of the histogram and a black peak thereof, and compares density of the white peak and that of the black peak with a white side threshold value and a black side threshold value, respectively. When the density of the white peak is the white side rather than the white side threshold value or the density of the black peak is the black side rather than the black side threshold value, it is detected whether or not a sum of the frequencies around the density of the white or black peak is a predetermined value or more. When the sum of the frequencies is the predetermined value or more, a histogram value stored in a histogram preparation circuit is cleared. A histogram is prepared by use of only image data showing the document, so that a suitable automatic density adjustment can be executed.

  • Patent number: 5608544
Abstract: In an image forming device recognizing a specified area as a rectangular shape in an original image in which the area is specified by a frame indicated by use of a marker pen or the like, erroneous detection of a rectangular shape due to noise is prevented. Pixels having the halftone value in the image data are recognized as a frame and an area surrounded by the frame is defined by a rectangle and rectangle information thereof is provided. The size of the rectangle indicated by the rectangle information is determined, and if the size of the rectangle is smaller than a preset value, the rectangle information is eliminated as invalid information.

  • Patent number: 5161029
Abstract: A lamp mounted on a first carriage emits light onto an original placed on an original table. A photoelectric converter converts light reflected by the original into an electrical signal by using mirrors, a zoom lens, and the like mounted on a second carriage. In accordance with the electrical signals supplied from the photoelectric converter via a control unit, a thermal head transfers inks from an ink ribbon onto paper wound around a platen drum to form an image corresponding to an original image on the paper. An operation panel has a magnification-set key for setting the magnification of an image to be formed by the thermal head. A stepping motor drives the first and second carriages. When the magnification set by the magnification-set key falls within a predetermined range, a motor drive in the control unit sets the speed of the stepping motor to a high speed and supplies a high current.

  • Patent number: 4875092
Abstract: A color image data output section outputs color image data as a main image formed on an image forming medium. A positioning-mark data output section outputs positioning mark data representing a positioning mark to be formed at a predetermined position of the image forming medium for use after the image is formed. An image forming section forms the main image on the image forming medium by using a single- or multi-color agent and, at the same time, forms the positioning mark at the predetermined position of the image forming medium in accordance with the color image data and the positioning mark data.

  • Patent number: 4816902
Abstract: A photoelectric transducer receives the light reflected from an original, and outputs color signals representing cyan, green, and yellow. These colors signals are processed by a signal-splitting circuit and a signal-converting circuit, and are thereby converted to image-forming signals representing yellow, magenta, cyan, and black. When a print key of a control panel is depressed, a main control section instructs the signal-converting circuit to continuously output the image-forming signals. In accordance with the output image-forming signals, images are continuously formed on a plastic film, by using an ink ribbon. Hence, a yellow image, a magenta image, a cyan image and a black image can be formed on four plastic films, respectively. These plastic films can be used in making plates to print a multicolor image.

  • Patent number: 4742240
Abstract: An image reading apparatus and method which does not require that two optical elements be focused on one line of a document. A single optical element is provided for simultaneously guiding light reflected from two lines of the document onto light receiving elements arranged in two staggered rows, respectively. The optical element is a glass fiber lens array having a plurality of light focusing glass fibers arranged in linear fashion. The light receiving elements include a photoelectric alloy and are arranged in an effective field of view of the fiber lens array. Since the document is scanned, each line of the document is read by each row of light receiving elements, one row at a time. To form a complete image of the line, the output signals of each of the rows must be synchronized. This is accomplished in a signal processing circuit where the output signal of one row is delayed by a period of time equal to the distance between the two rows divided by the scanning velocity.

  • Patent number: 4695896
Abstract: An image forming apparatus capable of transferring a color pattern of an original onto a copying sheet in two modes: a nonlap print mode or a lap print mode. In a nonlap print mode using a two color original, color signals of light produced by reading the original pattern are converted into color signals of ink of the same colors as the original pattern. Then the original pattern is reproduced by using a transfer ink ribbon arranged the same colors as that of color signals of ink without lap transfer, that is, by transferring ink of one color on one PC cell of the copying sheet.

  • Patent number: 4670795
Abstract: A color image forming apparatus and method in which the color image information of the document, supplied from a reciprocally moving scanner is converted into color component signals corresponding to the color components of the ink ribbon. These component signals are sequentially supplied to the thermal head for each color component signal, and they are overlappingly transferred and copied onto the copy paper one color at a time. The scanner scans only the number of times equal to the number of color components of the ink ribbon. One color component signal is sequentially supplied to the thermal head at the time of each scanning, and the image of one color is formed simultaneously with the scanning. The copy paper is repositioned after each scanning and the process is repeated until all color components have been applied to the copy paper, thus producing a color copy of the original document.

  • Patent number: 4631577
Abstract: A thermal transfer color copying machine reads out an image signal of a document by scanning it, heats a thermal head, and transfers images having respective colors to a copying paper sheet from an ink ribbon to obtain a color copy. The copying machine has a pattern display unit for graphically and schematically representing a paper feed cassette, a copying paper sheet, a convey path of the copying paper sheet, a platen roller, a thermal head, an ink ribbon, a discharging path of a color copied paper sheet and the like, thereby representing the actual operation of the copying machine, i.e., a position of the copying paper sheet, which thermally transferred colors have been transferred, thermally transferring colors are in the process of being transferred, and which colors are to be transferred to the copying sheet.

  • Patent number: 4623902
Abstract: At the time of conveying a transfer printing belt-shaped material having known length and utilized in a tape recorder, a picture image forming apparatus or the like by an electric motor, the length of the belt-shaped material remaining after any point thereof is determined and displayed. The remaining length is determined by generating pulses in accordance with the rotation of the motor and then counting the number of pulses with a counter. Since the length of the belt-shaped material is known by correlating the length and the count of the counter with a computer the remaining length can be determined.
