    Abstract: In a reflective liquid crystal display comprising a first insulative plate having a reflector, a second insulative plate having a transparent electrode, and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the reflector and the transparent electrode, a convex-concave surface is provided at the side of the second insulative plate. With this arrangement, a desired light scattering characteristics is realized with a high image quality and a high brightness, with neither a fuzziness of displayed characters nor a double image. On the other hand, since no thin film transistor is formed at the side of the second insulative plate, the convex-concave surface can be simply formed with no necessity of depositing an insulating film covering the thin film transistor and patterning the deposited insulating film.

    Abstract: In a tablet integrated type liquid crystal display apparatus, a first transparent substrate is provided on a view side. The first substrate is a plastic substrate having a thickness equal to or thinner than 0.6 mm, and a counter electrode is formed on the first substrate. A second substrate on which a driving layer composed of switching elements and pixel electrodes respectively connected to the switching elements is formed. The second substrate is a glass substrate having a thickness in a range of 0.6 mm to 1.1 mm. A guest host liquid crystal layer sandwiched by the first substrate and the second substrate such that the guest host liquid crystal is driven by a voltage applied between the counter electrode and the pixel electrode. A tablet electrode layer may be provided between the first substrate and the counter electrode. Alternatively, a tablet electrode layer may be provided on the first substrate on an opposite side of the counter electrode.

    Abstract: First two or more layers are formed on the substrate, the layers having different etching rates such that the etching rates ascend from a bottom layer to a top layer. Second, a mask pattern is formed on the surface of the layers, the mask pattern comprising a plurality of islands each having a predetermined shape. Finally, isotropic etching is performed on the surface of the layers until a desired convex shape is formed on the surface of the layers. The desired convex shape on the surface of the layers is determined by the etching rate ratios of the layers. The etching rate of each layer is controlled by layer formation conditions such as a curing temperature for organic materials, and a flow rate ratio of source gases for inorganic materials.

    Abstract: A metal-insulator-metal liquid crystal display apparatus (i.e., MIM-LCD) which includes a liquid crystal display element having a lower substrate provided with a lead electrode, a pixel electrode and a MIM element connected between the lead and pixel electrodes. The LCD element also includes an upper substrate provided with a transparent counter electrode opposed to the pixel electrode. The MIM-LCD apparatus includes a constant resistor provided in series with the MIM element to prevent changes in the I-V characteristic of the MIM-element from affecting a driving voltage of the display. In an alternative embodiment, the LCD element includes a lower substrate provided with lead and pixel electrodes, an upper substrate provided with a transparent counter electrode opposed to the pixel electrode and a liquid crystal sandwiched between the upper and lower substrates.

    Abstract: A color LCD panel includes a lower substrate, an upper substrate and a liquid crystal which is sealed between the lower substrate and the upper substrate. A plurality of pixels are provided on the lower substrate so as to form a matrix of a plurality of rows and columns. Each pixel includes a substantially rectangular pixel electrode. A plurality of scan driver lines are provided on the lower substrate in the rows in the matrix. Each scan driver line extends in parallel to shorter sides of the rectangular pixel electrodes of the pixels. A plurality of data driver lines of a transparent conductor are formed in the columns in the matrix. Each data driver line extends in parallel to the longer sides of the pixel electrodes of the pixels.
