    Abstract: A substantially pure, chemically distinct halomagnesium alkoxide compound is formed by reaction of a dihydrocarbylmagnesium compound with a compound which will replace an hydrocarbyl functionality thereon with an hydrocarbyloxy functionality and thereafter reacting the resulting product with a compound which replaces the other hydrocarbyl functionality with a halogen functionality, such as chlorine. The .sup.13 C nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum of the product exhibits no more than one strong, narrow absorption peak for each chemically inequivalent carbon atom in the hydrocarbyloxy ligand of the compound.

    Abstract: Fibers of an alternating carbon monoxide-ethylene polymer having a molecular weight of at least 100,000 g/mole and a birefringence of at least 650.times.10.sup.-4 can be formed by first extruding a solution of the polymer in a mixed solvent system comprising an aromatic alcohol which is free of alkyl substituents on the aromatic nucleus and another solvent which is a liquid and is other than an aromatic alcohol. The extrusion into the solvent is at an extrusion rate of at least 1 m/min and forms a solvent-containing article which is then cooled or coagulated in a non-solvent for the polymer. The solvent is removed by extraction with a non-solvent for the polymer which is soluble in the mixture of solvents and the resulting article is drawn at a temperature of at least 180.degree. C.

    Abstract: Alkyl cycloalkyl dialkoxysilanes (e.g., methyl cyclohexyl dimethoxysilane) can be prepared by reaction of an alkyl trialkoxysilane (e.g., methyl trimethoxysilane) with a Grignard reagent containing the cycloalkyl moiety derived in the final end-product (e.g., a reagent formed by reacting cyclohexyl chloride and magnesium metal). The reaction is run in the absence of ether solvent, the Grignard reagent is preferably formed in situ by the reaction of magnesium metal and cyclohexyl halide, and agitation is used to promote the reaction. Advantageously, a catalyst, such as iodine, is used to promote the reaction.

    Abstract: Isotactic index improvement is achieved for C.sub.3 and higher alpha olefins in systems containing a catalyst component comprising titanium supported on a magnesium halide support. The titanium component is formed by copulverizing the magnesium halide with one or more electron donors followed by treatment with liquid titanium halide. The improvement is achieved by using a dialkylaluminoxane component with the trialkylaluminum co-catalyst normally used. In slurry polymerizations, the isotactic index of the polymer has been improved.

This catalytic component is obtainable by steps comprising:(a) contacting a mixture comprising a magnesium halide or manganese halide and at least one electron donor with a Ti(OR).sub.4 compound to form a solution, where R is a hydrocarbyl or halogenated hydrocarbyl moiety containing 1 to 20 carbon atoms or a halogen, and(b) reacting the solution with a reagent comprising a transition metal halide selected from Groups IVB and VB of the periodic table,whereby, with a suitable cocatalyst, polyolefin is formed with high activity, showing a high Isotactic Index, and with a narrow range of particle size distribution.
