  • Publication number: 20240206758
Abstract: Embodiments relate to guiding medical care based on detected gastric function. For example, gastric acid stimulant or suppressant is administered, and then a change in the gastric juice H+ concentration is measured. This change is compared to a guidance H+ concentration differential indicative of relatively healthy gastric function. Medical care is guided based on a relatively healthy gastric function if the measured H+ concentration differential is equal to or exceeds the guidance H+ concentration differential, while medical care is guided based on a relatively unhealthy gastric function if the measured H+ concentration differential is less than the guidance H+ concentration differential. Disclosed embodiments implementing this procedure include, but are not limited to, methods, apparatus, processors, computer programs, and computer-readable mediums.

  • Publication number: 20230181095
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for guiding medical care based on sensor data from the gastrointestinal tract are described utilizing an apparatus which can be used with enteral feeding. Generally, the apparatus includes an elongated body having a length configured for insertion into a stomach and at least one pair of electrodes located along the length of the elongated body and positionable for placement within the stomach. A controller in electrical communication with the at least one pair of electrodes is included and the control may also be configured to measure a conductivity or impedance between the pair of electrodes and to determine a gastric residual volume of the stomach based on the measured conductivity or impedance.

  • Publication number: 20220304898
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for accessing and monitoring the gastrointestinal tract are described herein. One variation of a feeding tube system may generally comprise a gastric access device having a length, a controller in communication with the gastric access device, and one or more impedance or conductivity sensors positioned along the length and one or more temperature sensors positioned along the length. The controller may be configured to receive a first signal associated with the impedance or conductivity sensors and a second signal associated with respiration and determine whether a placement of the gastric access device is within a stomach of the subject.

  • Patent number: 9713561
Abstract: Exemplary embodiments are directed to a controller and/or a procedure table. The procedure table includes a driver that moves the table, and at least one indicator that indicates status of a condition of the table. The controller includes an unlock actuator that enables the driver to move the table, and a lock actuator that prevents the driver from moving the table while enabling the at least one indicator to continue indicating the status. In some exemplary embodiments, the unlock actuator does not enable the driver to move the table until after expiration of a specified delay period that begins upon actuation of the unlock actuator. Other exemplary embodiments also include a delay period indicator that indicates initiation of the delay period upon actuation of the unlock actuator, and that terminates the indication upon expiration of the delay period.

  • Publication number: 20040219587
Abstract: Complete core LPS (lacking O-polysaccharide side chains) from Gram-negative bacteria are incorprated into a vaccine typically in liposomes. The complete core of E. coli K 12 is particularly useful. Upon administration to a mammal the vaccine stimulated synthesis of antibodies which are cross-protective against smooth and rough forms of LPS from at least two different Gram-negative bacterial strains having different core structures.

  • Patent number: 6365128
Abstract: A method of guiding the care of a critically ill patient or other high risk patient, said method comprising administering an effective dose of a gastric acid stimulant or suppressant agent and then measuring for an acute change in the gastric juice pH. A patient who demonstrates a significant change in the gastric juice pH using this test can have their medical care normalized in an accelerated fashion thereby reducing the duration, intensity, and cost of their care. Conversely, a patient who is not responsive is not ready for reduced support and may require more support.
