Patent number: 12073063Abstract: The techniques disclosed herein provide a system that generates a summary for a communication session. A topic for a summary can be selected in response to detection of a high priority source of information. For instance, if a user's manager makes a comment during a meeting, that comment can be interpreted and selected as a topic for a summary. The system can select such content based on a user's relationship with a source. Information provided by teammates or a manager or other entities having a threshold level of relevancy can be indicated as a high-priority topic for a summary. The system improves the user's interaction with a computer by providing an adaptable summaries of information. The adaptable summaries allow users to readily identify topics, content sources, and high-priority content for meetings.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 2023Date of Patent: August 27, 2024Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Jason Thomas Faulkner, Shalendra Chhabra, Eric R. Publication number: 20240113907Abstract: A system provides a notification associated with joining a communication session based on trigger events that occur at a time other than a scheduled start time for the communication session. For example, the notification informs a user when at least one user from each of a plurality of organizational groups has joined the communication session. The notification can include an embedded control that, when activated by the user, causes a device of the user to transmit a join request to join the device to the communication session.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 14, 2023Publication date: April 4, 2024Inventors: Dominic ROEDEL, Ewin Davis KANNUTHOTTIYIL, Philipp STEINACHER, Eric R. SEXAUER

Patent number: 11888636Abstract: A system provides a notification associated with joining a communication session based on trigger events that occur at a time other than a scheduled start time for the communication session. For example, the notification informs a user who organizes the communication session of a predefined join event that occurs when another user joins the communication session. The predefined join event may occur at a time that is different than a scheduled start time (e.g., before the scheduled start time). Moreover, the notification can include an embedded control that, when activated by the organizing user, causes a device of the organizing user to transmit a join request to join the device to the communication session.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 2022Date of Patent: January 30, 2024Assignee: MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY LICENSING, LLCInventors: Dominic Roedel, Ewin Davis Kannuthottiyil, Philipp Steinacher, Eric R. Publication number: 20230305682Abstract: The techniques disclosed herein improve existing systems by providing a system that automatically generates a scalable summary with adaptable graphical associations between people and content. The system can select a level of detail that can be applied to a process for generating a summary of content. The level of detail can be based on a user's engagement with respect to one or more events. The system can improve the usability of the summary by selecting a level of detail that is optimized for the user's contextual status. The system also improves the user's interaction with a computer by providing an adaptable layout of information indicating a source of content. The adaptable layout allows users to readily identify topics, content sources, and high-priority summary sections regardless of the level of detail that is selected for the summary.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 25, 2023Publication date: September 28, 2023Inventors: Jason Thomas FAULKNER, Shalendra CHHABRA, Eric R. SEXAUER

Patent number: 11444797Abstract: A system provides a notification associated with joining a communication session based on trigger events other than a scheduled start time for the communication session. The notification informs the recipient user of current contextual information associated with the communication session and to provide the user with an effective and efficient way to join the communication session (a.k.a., the meeting). The contextual information may indicate that some other user has initiated the communication session (e.g., is the first to join the communication session), that a predefined user has joined the communication session (e.g., a user's manager has joined), and/or that a topic of interest has been brought up during the communication session (e.g., one or more users start speaking about the topic). As described herein, the notification(s) can be provided based on occurrences of different types of events that occur at times that are different than a scheduled start time.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2020Date of Patent: September 13, 2022Assignee: MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY LICENSING, LLCInventors: Dominic Roedel, Ewin Davis Kannuthottiyil, Philipp Steinacher, Eric R. Patent number: 10972301Abstract: The techniques disclosed herein provide a notification to a user that has been invited to participate in a communication session (e.g., a virtual meeting such as a video conference). The notification informs the user of contextual information associated with a meeting and provides a mechanism for the user to efficiently join the meeting. The notification can be provided based on different types of join events signaling that the meeting may be able to start. One type of join event can occur when the first person joins the meeting. Other types of join events can occur when an organizer of the meeting joins the meeting, when a required attendee is the first required attendee to join the meeting, when an external user is the first external user to join the meeting, or when a representative from each of a plurality of different stakeholder groups has joined the meeting.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2019Date of Patent: April 6, 2021Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Dominic Roedel, Ewin Davis Kannuthottiyil, Philipp Steinacher, Eric R. Publication number: 20200374146Abstract: The techniques disclosed herein improve existing systems by automatically generating summaries of shared content based on a contextual analysis of a user's engagement with an event. User activity data from a number of sensors and other contextual data, such as scheduling data and communication data, can be analyzed to determine a user's level of engagement of an event. A system can automatically generate a summary of any shared content the user may have missed during a time period that the user was not engaged with the event. For example, if a user becomes distracted or is otherwise unavailable during a presentation, the system can provide a summary of salient portions of content that was shared during the time of the user's inattentive status, such as, but not limited to, key topics, tasks, shared files, an excerpt of a transcript of a presentation or any salient sections of a shared video.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 24, 2019Publication date: November 26, 2020Inventors: Shalendra CHHABRA, Eric R. SEXAUER, Jason Thomas FAULKNER

Publication number: 20200211408Abstract: A computer implemented agent may analyze live or stored communication session data for questions posed in a collaborative meeting environment, such as a communication session. The agent may also analyze the live or stored communication session data for answers provided in the collaborative meeting environment. The agent may be functional to create a data object that includes one or more questions posed and answers provided in the collaborative meeting environment. The data object may be decimated to different types of platforms, such as computer applications and websites, that include content contextually relevant to the questions and answers included in the data object.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 26, 2018Publication date: July 2, 2020Inventors: Jason Thomas FAULKNER, Eric R. SEXAUER, Tiphanie LAU

Publication number: 20180123814Abstract: A team collaboration tool can create a new meeting object, wherein the new meeting object is associated with a thread. The new meeting object can be a scheduled meeting object, a live meeting object, or a meeting ended object. In response to receiving a request for a scheduled meeting object for a meeting, a system can determine at least a start time and a thread identifier for the scheduled meeting object, create the scheduled meeting object with at least the start time; and store, at a persistent team collaboration storage, the scheduled meeting object associated with the thread identifier. At the start time of the scheduled meeting object, the system can create the live meeting object; and after the meeting ends, the system can create the meeting ended object and store the meeting ended object associated with the thread identifier.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 10, 2017Publication date: May 3, 2018Inventors: Eric R.
