Abstract: 1-Halo-1-propyn-3-ols of the formula ##STR1## in which R is optionally substituted phenyl, pyridyl, furyl, thienyl or pyrazolyl,R' is optionally substituted phenyl, andX is halogen,which possess fungicidal properties.

Abstract: A method of preserving cut flowers and other parts of plants which have been cut off, comprising placing the flowers or parts of plants in water containing an N-(trifluoromethyl)-N-(dichlorofluoromethylsulphenyl)-aminobenzoic acid, or salt thereof, of the formula ##STR1## in which M is hydrogen or 1 equivalent of an alkali metal atom or of an alkaline earth metal atom, andR is hydrogen, methyl, methoxy, trifluoro-methyl, chlorine or nitro.The active material can be employed in the form of a composition also containing water, a carbohydrate and a salt of magnesium, boron or aluminum. It can be held as a dry concentrate on a carrier such as kieselguhr, a natural or synthetic zeolite or alumina.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of 4-nitrothioanisole comprising successively in a single vessel and without intermediate isolation reacting 4-nitrochlorobenzene with Na.sub.2 S.sub.2, then with an alkaline Na.sub.2 S solution and with a methylating agent. Advantageously the reactions are effected in methanol or aqueous methanol, the reactions with Na.sub.2 S.sub.2 and Na.sub.2 S are carried out at a temperature between about 50.degree. to 70.degree. C., the Na.sub.2 S.sub.2 is formed in situ in about 20% excess from Na.sub.2 S and sulphur, the Na.sub.2 S solution is rendered alkaline with sodium methylate or sodium hydroxide, and methylation is effected with methyl chloride at about 27.degree. to 35.degree. C. The product is produced in such high yield and purity that it can be employed directly for chlorination, without extensive purification, to produce insecticide intermediates.

Abstract: 1, Arylamino-2,4-dinitronaphthalenes of the formula ##STR1## in which R each independently is hydrogen, alkyl, halogenoalkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, alkoxy, alkylmercapto, alkylsulphonyl, sulphonate, halogenoalkoxy, halogenoalkylmercapto, acylamino, alkoxycarbonyl, phenylazo, halogen, CN or nitro, or two radicals R in orthoposition to one another can, conjointly with the two adjoining carbon atoms of the phenyl ring, form an optionally halogen-substituted 1,3-dioxane ring, andn is 1,2,3,4 or 5 which possess arthropodicidal, fungicidal and bactericidal properties.

Abstract: Fluorine-containing phenylacetic acid esters of the formula ##STR1## in which R represents the radical of an alcohol customary in the case of pyrethroids,R.sup.1 represents C.sub.2-4 -alkyl, C.sub.2-4 -alkenyl or cyclopropyl,X represents H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, OCHF.sub.2, SCHF.sub.2, SCClF.sub.2 or SCF.sub.3 andX.sup.1 can vary widely or form a fused ring with X,the overall compound necessarily containing a fluorine atom, which compounds possess arthropodicidal properties. Intermediates therefor and an overall synthesis from an alcohol of the formula ROH and a toluene of the formula ##STR2## are also shown.

Abstract: N-(Substituted-phenyl)-N'-(2-chloro-6-fluoro-benzoyl)- ureas of the formula ##STR1## in which R represents halogenoalkyl with 1-4 carbon atoms,R.sup.1 represents hydrogen, halogen or halogenoalkyl with 1-4 carbon atoms,X represents oxygen or sulphur, andn represents the number 1 or 2which possess insecticidal properties.

Abstract: N-(4-Substituted-phenyl)-N'-(2-substituted-benzoyl)-thioureas of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 represents halogen,R.sup.2 represents hydrogen or halogen,R.sup.3 represents hydrogen, halogen or halogenoalkyl,R.sup.4 represents halogen, halogenoalkyl, halogenoalkoxy, halogenoalkylthio or halogenoalkylsulphonyl, with the proviso that R.sup.3 represents halogenoalkyl if R.sup.4 represents halogen, andR.sup.5 represents hydrogen or halogen,which possess arthropodicidal, fungicidal and bactericidal properties.

Abstract: 2,2-Dimethyl-3-vinyl-cyclopropane carboxylic acid esters of halogenated benzyl alcohols of the formula ##STR1## in which each R independently represents F, Cl, Br or CH.sub.3 andm and n each represent 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 subject to the sum of m+n being not more than 5,with the provisos that(i) when each R represents F or Br then m and n cannot both be 0,(ii) when each R represents Cl, then m represents 0, 1, 2, 3 or 5 and n represents 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, and(iii) when each R represents CH.sub.3, then m represents 0 and n represents 5,which possess arthropodicidal properties.

Abstract: Substituted 5-phenylcarbamoyl-barbituric acids of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 represents hydrogen or alkyl,R.sup.2 represents hydrogen or alkyl,R.sup.3 represents halogenoalkyl, or phenyl substituted by halogenoalkyl,X represents oxygen or sulphur,Y represents halogen or halogenoalkyl, andn represents 0, 1 or 2, orX--R.sup.3 and Y in the ortho-position to one another conjointly may alternatively represent the --O--CF.sub.2 --O--CF.sub.2 -- group,or salts thereof with a physiologically tolerated base, which possess insecticidal properties.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of a trifluoromethylphenol or the corresponding alkoxy compound which comprises contacting a halogenobenzotrifluoride of the formula ##STR1## in which X denotes halogen,R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 denote hydrogen, trifluoromethyl or a substituent which promotes the replacement of X by a hydroxyl group andY denotes hydrogen, a halogen or alkoxy, at least one of the substituents R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 representing a trifluoromethyl group and at least one of them representing a substituent which promotes the replacement of the radical X by a hydroxyl group,with an excess aqueous alkali metal hydroxide in an alcoholic solution in the presence of a quaternary onium salt.

Abstract: Quinoline derivatives, especially those of the formula ##STR1## wherein X represents halogen, nitro or CF.sub.3,Z represents hydrogen, alkyl or aryl,Y represents hydrogen, OH, CN, COR or SO.sub.3 H,R represents alkyl, alkoxy or aryl andn represents an integer from 0 to 4,are obtained in high yields when corresponding aromatic orthodichloromethyl isocyanates are converted by hydrolysis and decarboxylation into the corresponding ortho-aminoaldehydes and these are subjected to a condensation reaction with carbonyl compounds containing an active .alpha.-methylene group.The process products are starting materials for dyestuffs, insecticides and others.

Abstract: Reactive dyestuffs are disclosed having the formula ##STR1## in which D is the radical of an organic nonanthraquinoid dyestuff; R is hydrogen or lower alkyl; R.sub.1 is amino or substituted amino with substituents attached by a single bond, optionally etherified hydroxy, optionally etherified mercapto or an optionally substituted hydrocarbon radical; Q is an alkylene, aralkylene, arylene, --CO-- or --SO-- which is directly linked to a carbon atom of the ring of the dyestuff D; n is the number 0 or 1 and F is a fluoro substituent. The group --N(R) is directly linked to a carbon atom of the triazine ring and on the other side, the group --N(R) is linked to a carbon atom of the ring of the dyestuff D either directly (if n=0) or (if n=1) via one of the bridge members mentioned above. These dyestuffs are primarily suitable for dyeing of textile materials containing hydroxyl or nitrogen such as natural and regenerated cellulose, wood, silk, polyamide and polyurethane.
