Abstract: A method is described for completing calls to wireless communications customers. A database is queried to determine whether to bill the calling party or the called party for communication charges (e.g., airtime charges) associated with the wireless communication service. When the query indicates that the calling party is to be billed for those communications charges, a telecommunications switch which received the call from the calling party is instructed to record information to be used in billing the calling party for the charges. At the same time, the wireless switch that normally would bill the called party for the charges is instructed to suppress billing of the called party for the charges. The billing instruction is sent to the wireless switch in a signaling message using a message parameter that is unaffected by intermediate (e.g., local exchange carrier) switches.

Abstract: Telephone calls are directed from a first telecommunications platform to a second telecommunications platform, together with an identifier which uniquely identifies the call and enables telecommunication switches to monitor and maintain control over the call. The unique identifier enables the call to be returned from the second platform to the first platform. Once returned to the first platform, the call can be directed to a third telecommunications platform (and, subsequently, back to the first platform), without requiring the caller to place another call or to re-verify the caller's identity. The call identifier is used either to automatically return the call to the first platform after the occurrence of a predetermined event, or upon detecting predetermined, caller-dialed keystrokes indicating that the caller wishes to return to the interexchange carrier platform.

Abstract: A high-speed information service system is provided which uses Primary Rate Interface (PRI) Integrated Services Digital Networks (ISDN) signaling and temporary, "out-of-band" signaling to improve information retrieval capability. ISDN signaling permits electronic addressing of information requested by the subscriber, thereby eliminating the delays which accompany DTMF signal processing. Communications between an information service provider and an individual information source are conducted using out-of-band signaling. That is, call setup and information request are processed using a channel other than the channel which carries data between the information service provider, the information source and the subscriber.

Abstract: The names in a directory stored in a personal terminal having a display are displayed as groups of names in which illustratively the first name in each group of names serves as a displayed tab which is pointed to by the user to display the respective group of names. The individual tabs are dynamically changed to conform with any change in the first name of the respective groups of names that may occur as a result of a change in the composition of the directory.

Abstract: A time manager for a personal terminal can be generally characterized as a things-to-do file in which the user inputs a to-do reminder message along with a data and time that the terminal user wants to be alerted (reminded). The notion of a terminal time manager is advanced by displaying reminder messages directed to calling a named entity that is contained in the terminal telephone directory and by automatically calling the named entity when the user points to the displayed reminder. If the user inputs the actual telephone number to be called in place of the named entity, then the telephone number will be called even though the telephone number is not contained in the directory.
