Patent number: 7784159Abstract: This invention relates to a spring fastener, which comprises engagement springs in opposite sides of the fastener. Each engagement spring has an engagement region comprising a hindrance portion, which increases considerably the removal to insertion force ratio as compared to such ratio in the absence of the hindrance portion, thus permitting very easy insertion with considerably more difficult removal of the fastener from the slot of a panel, which provides an efficient ergonomically balanced removal to insertion force ratio. The hindrance portion comprises ripples or other hindrance elements of unexpectedly minute dimensions for providing this efficient ergonomic force balance. The combination of the above structures with the presence of barbs being bent at their front portion improves immensely the ergonomic character of the devices.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 2003Date of Patent: August 31, 2010Assignee: Termax CorporationInventors: Daniel James Dickinson, Michael Walter Smith, Lawrence John Conway, Edward Sacha, Paul Lester Clemens, Mark Fleydervish, Richard H. Ducato, Eustathios Vassiliou

Patent number: 7640634Abstract: Fasteners characterized by structures which are suitable to be engaged reversibly in a slot of a rigid part, such as a metal sheet or the frame of a car for example. The structure provides easy insertion but difficult extraction of the fastener from the slot, without producing squeaking noises during end-use. Easy manufacturing and high dimensional accuracy are also great assets of the fasteners. The invention also pertains to an assembly of said rigid part and the fastener, an assembly connecting parts with the fastener of this invention, as well as vehicles comprising such assemblies.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 2005Date of Patent: January 5, 2010Assignee: Termax CorporationInventor: Eustathios Vassiliou

Patent number: 7572089Abstract: The present invention pertains fasteners with critical configuration of the barbs, which allows the fasteners to be used in slots of various widths and panels of various thicknesses, and prevents rattling, which would take place in the case of fasteners of the present state of the art. The critical configuration is based on the special dimensions and special shape of the barbs with regard to the parts and the slots involved in assemblies of the fasteners and the parts. The present invention also pertains assemblies of miscellaneous parts connected together by means of the fasteners, as well as vehicles comprising such assemblies. In addition, the present invention comprises fasteners providing a combination of low barbs and high bent barbs, which combination prevents rattling of the fastener and allows secure attachment on a part, such as a sheet metal, for example.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 2004Date of Patent: August 11, 2009Assignee: Termax CorporationInventors: Joseph William Lowry, Eustathios Vassiliou

Patent number: 7223972Abstract: An analytical instrument, such as a mass spectrometer, the instrument having a magnetic section with a controllable electromagnetic field. Controlling the electromagnetic field is accomplished by controlling a temperature of a base plate within the magnetic section, by controlling a current passing through an electromagnetic coil disposed within the magnetic, by disposing a magnetic shunt across a portion of a yoke of the magnet, or by any of the above either independently or in combination. The magnetic shunt is configured to have a temperature coefficient of remnant flux density that is opposite the temperature coefficient of remnant flux density of a first pair of permanent magnets located within the magnetic section.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2005Date of Patent: May 29, 2007Assignee: OI CorporationInventors: Eustathios Vassiliou, Gottfried P. Kibelka

Patent number: 6979818Abstract: A mass spectrometer suitable to measure both positive and negative particles, such as ions for example in a vacuum chamber. This spectrometer is provided with a turnable permanent magnet segment, which provides the gap of a yoke with adequate magnetic flux having the appropriate direction to separate the positive or the negative particles. Changing the polarity adjusts the flight path of the ions. Thus, negatively charged ions and positively charged ions will follow similar flight paths under opposite polarities, permitting the use of a single array of detectors. One or more coils may be used in place of or in addition to the turnable permanent magnet segment in order to provide the appropriate magnetic flux to the gap, and/or facilitate the turning process of the turnable magnet segment. The turnable magnet and/or the coils may be inside or outside the vacuum chamber.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 2004Date of Patent: December 27, 2005Assignee: OI CorporationInventors: Adi A. Scheidemann, Mark W. Dassel, Mark Wadsworth, Eustathios Vassiliou

Patent number: 6921237Abstract: This invention relates to a fastener, which expands by the insertion of an expanding member, preferably a screw. The fastener comprises a substantially flat head and two expandable legs. The head has an upper side and a lower side, preferably separated by a gap. The head has also a hole on the upper side in which the screw engages. Further, the screw engages in other locations of a critical portion of the rest of the body of the fastener, thereby increasing considerably the prevailing torque required to render the screw loose, the pulling force required to break the fastener or otherwise pull the screw out of the engageable hole of the upper side of the head, as well as the stripping torque.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2002Date of Patent: July 26, 2005Assignee: E. Patent number: 6908274Abstract: This invention pertains fasteners which are characterized by easy insertion and extraordinarily difficult separation of items that they attach together. This is achieved by a combination of snapping segments with multi-engagement configurations of engageable holes. The snapping segments may comprise anti-opening and/or anti-sliding portions, which immensely increase the strength with which the fasteners hold the objects together. Provision of an elastic body in the vicinity of the bottom section of the fasteners provides water and gas proof properties, and further eliminates squeaking noises. Vehicles comprising objects connected together by the fastening devices described and claimed herein are part of the instant invention.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2003Date of Patent: June 21, 2005Assignee: Termax CorporationInventor: Eustathios Vassiliou

Publication number: 20050013890Abstract: A solid imaging apparatus and method produces an integral three-dimensional object from a multiplicity of cross sectional portions of the object by selectively exposing successive layers of a liquid photoformable composition to actinic radiation. The apparatus includes a vessel for containing the composition so as to present a free surface, and a movable platform disposed within the vessel below the free surface. Part of the composition is transferred above the free surface by lowering and raising a dispenser at predetermined positions located away from the platform. A doctor blade contacts the composition transferred above the free surface, and then moves over the platform to form a substantially uniform layer of the composition.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 16, 2004Publication date: January 20, 2005Inventors: Brian Chapman, Christian Clausen, Daniel Mickish, Eustathios Vassiliou
