  • Patent number: 8489129
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for transmitting a text/multimedia message over a bearer interface of a mobile network. A first network element of the mobile network, such as an MSC for a Mobile Terminated (MT) text/multimedia message or a BSS for a Mobile Originated (MO) text/multimedia message, receives a text/multimedia message. The first network element communicates with a second network element of the mobile network using a signaling interface (e.g., an IOS A1 interface) to select a bearer connection on a non-voice circuit-mode bearer interface (e.g., an IOS A5 interface), and routes the text/multimedia message to the second network element over the selected connection on the non-voice circuit-mode bearer interface. The first network element may also select a bearer connection on a voice bearer interface (e.g., an IOS A2 interface) and route the text/multimedia message to the second network element over the selected bearer connection.

  • Patent number: 8054822
Abstract: Communication networks and methods are disclosed for synchronizing call traffic in the forward direction over backhaul links. Within a communication network, a traffic processing unit is connected to base stations over a plurality of backhaul links. When the traffic processing unit receives reverse call traffic over the backhaul links, the traffic processing unit processes the reverse call traffic to determine a differential delay in receiving the reverse call traffic over the backhaul links. The traffic processing unit then receives forward call traffic. In response to receiving the forward call traffic, the traffic processing unit transmits the forward call traffic over the backhaul links to the base stations based on the differential delay determined for the reverse call traffic. The transmission of the forward call traffic in this manner substantially synchronizes receipt of the forward call traffic at the base stations.

  • Patent number: 7215963
Abstract: A wireless communications network, a method of operating a wireless communications network, and a wireless network controller are described. The wireless communication network comprises a call processing system, a translator system, a first base station system, and a second base station system. The first base station system transfers first call traffic in a first format to the call processing system. The second base station system transfers second call traffic in a second format to the translator system. The translator system converts the second call traffic from the second format to the first format and transfers the second call traffic in the first format to the call processing system. The call processing system processes the first call traffic and the second call traffic.

  • Patent number: 6253083
Abstract: The system for wireless communication connection handoff service addresses the CDMA radio congestion problem from the mobile switching center point of view, thereby providing a unified approach to the problem of access failures for CDMA wireless communication service. In operation, the mobile subscriber station forms a message and forwards it to the mobile switching center to indicate the signal strength of the various base stations that have responded to the access probe. The mobile switching center saves this data for later use when the mobile subscriber station moves out of range of the initially selected base station. The mobile switching center reviews the stored data and, if a CIC is available to one of the identified base stations, the channel is allocated and the stored data is flushed. Thus, the need for another probe sequence is avoided and the initially provided base station signal strength data is reused to process a call handoff.

  • Patent number: 6009329
Abstract: A system and method, associated with a wireless base station system ("BSS") coupled to a mobile service center ("MSC") via a plurality of trunk lines, that allow the BSS to hunt the plurality of trunk lines for available channels to carry calls from the BSS to the MSC and a Groupe Speciale Mobile ("GSM") wireless infrastructure employing the system or the method. The system includes: (1) a signaling controller, associated with the BSS, that sends a command signal to the MSC to cause the MSC to bypass hunting for the available channels, the MSC acknowledging bypassing of the hunting to the signaling controller and (2) a trunk hunting controller, associated with the BSS, that is enabled when the MSC acknowledges the bypassing of the hunting to allow the BSS to hunt the plurality of trunk lines for the available channels to carry the calls from the BSS to the MSC, the trunk hunting controller capable of utilizing the trunk lines more efficiently than the MSC.
