  • Publication number: 20150332087
Abstract: A method identifies user demographic characteristics, such as age and gender. First, a plurality of photos are acquired from postings to a social media site by a specific user. A plurality of facial images are identified in the acquired photos. Using a selected subset of the facial images, the method estimates one or more demographic characteristics of the user. In some cases, the estimation uses a profile photograph of the user. In some cases, the facial images are clustered based on similarity. The cluster that most closely matches the profile photo is used for demographic analysis to estimate the characteristics of the user. In some cases, a cluster is selected based on cluster purity, and the images in the cluster are used to estimate the characteristics of the user. In some cases, other self-portrait features are used, such as large facial images or arms along the perimeter of photographs.

  • Patent number: 9087262
Abstract: Systems and methods described herein are directed to estimating the sharpness of images or photos such as document pages or scenes. The systems and methods are based on calculating a difference in grayscale values between pixels at an edge of an image. The differences may be accomplished by taking a slope of grayscale values between two pixels at an edge window, and estimating the edge sharpness based on the slope, multiple slopes, or differences in the slopes.

  • Patent number: 9007633
Abstract: Capturing a sequence of images of a multi-page printed document is performed by a handheld device, such as a Smartphone. The device has one or more processors, memory, and a digital image sensor. The device monitors preview images of a first printed page of the multi-page printed document, where the preview images are generated by the digital image sensor. Without user indication of when to capture an image, the device captures a still image of the first printed page when a first quality metric of the preview images exceeds a first quality threshold. The device repeats the monitoring and capturing of additional pages until receiving indication from the user that capturing images is complete. In response to receiving indication from the user that capturing images is complete, the device concatenates the captured still images into a single digital document and stores the single digital document.

  • Patent number: 8634644
Abstract: A system and method to identify pictures in documents. An image representing a page of a document is received. The image is analyzed to identify text objects in the page. A masked image is generated by masking out regions of the image including the text objects in the page. Groups of pixels in the masked image are identified, wherein a respective group of pixels corresponds to at least one picture in the page. When there is one or more groups of pixels, regions for pictures are identified based on the one or more groups of pixels. Metadata tags for the pictures are stored, wherein a respective metadata tag for a respective picture includes information about a respective bounding box for the respective picture.

  • Patent number: 8601393
Abstract: Described is a system that characterizes segments of a document with one or more keyphrases and then uses the keyphrases to help users find interesting parts of a document. • Patent number: 8281250

Keyphrases are displayed with information about the location of the phrase in the document and are used as pointers to quickly move to from overview to section of potential interest. In another implementation, when there are many documents in a collection, inventive multi-document view can be used to reduce number of documents presented, helping user to more efficiently find documents of interest. In this view, a user (possibly repeatedly) filters documents displayed based on metadata values. In one implementation, icons corresponding to documents are displayed on a display device together with metadata corresponding to the documents. When the value of the metadata is selected by the user, display state of the icons corresponding to document is varied based on selected value of metadata.

  • Publication number: 20120209751
Abstract: Systems and methods are directed to use-based product searching. Raw product information data, such as product features, specifications, and user reviews are processed and analyzed using pattern-based text analysis to extract relevant product aspects and uses. The aspects are weighted in relation to their importance for various uses, and the corresponding aspects and their weights are linked to the uses. A user selects uses for a product, which correspond to weighted aspects, and the weights for the aspects are used to rank products using the weights of the aspects linked to the selected uses. The ranked products are presented to the user in a customizable interface. The user may directly specify weights for the extracted aspects to further customize the ranked list of products. The interface provides additional options for viewing product details, opinions and comparisons.

  • Patent number: 8200063
Abstract: The subject invention relates to a system and method for video summarization, and more specifically to a system for segmenting and classifying data from a video in order to create a summary video that preserves and summarizes relevant content. In one embodiment, the system first extracts appearance, motion, and audio features from a video in order to create video segments corresponding to the extracted features. The video segments are then classified as dynamic or static depending on the appearance-based and motion-based features extracted from each video segment. The classified video segments are then grouped into clusters to eliminate redundant content. Select video segments from each cluster are selected as summary segments, and the summary segments are compiled to form a summary video.

  • Patent number: 8140326
Abstract: An audio privacy system reduces the intelligibility of speech in an audio signal while preserving prosodic information, such as pitch, relative energy and intonation so that a listener has the ability to recognize environmental sounds but not the speech itself. An audio signal is processed to separate non-vocalic information, such as pitch and relative energy of speech, from vocalic regions, after which syllables are identified within the vocalic regions. Representations of the vocalic regions are computed to produce a vocal tract transfer function and an excitation. The vocal tract transfer function for each syllable is then replaced with the vocal tract transfer function from another prerecorded vocalic sound. In one aspect, the identity of the replacement vocalic sound is independent of the identity of the syllable being replaced.

  • Publication number: 20120063684
Abstract: Systems and methods for interactive, user-driven detection, creation and completion of form fields in a digital document are provided. A document with form fields that require completion by a user is received, after which form fields are detected at the direction of the user. Once the user selects a possible form field, the system creates the appropriate fillable form field based on size, type, location, related text and other parameters of the form field and surrounding document. Additional levels of interaction include predictive text, pattern development and automatic completion of previously completed fields.

  • Publication number: 20120042288
Abstract: Systems and methods provide for mixed use of physical documents and a computer, and more specifically provide for detailed interactions with fine-grained content of physical documents that are integrated with operations on a computer to provide for improved user interactions between the physical documents and the computer. The system includes a camera which processes the physical documents and detects gestures made by a user with respect to the physical documents, a projector which provides visual feedback on the physical document, and a computer with a display to coordinate the interactions of the user with the computer and the interactions of the user with the physical document. The system, which can be portable, is capable of detecting interactions with fine-grained content of the physical document and translating interactions at the physical document with the computer display, and vice versa.

  • Patent number: 7916944
Abstract: Foreground segmentation in real world dynamic scenes, including under various lighting and shadow conditions, is disclosed. It may be used with one or multiple cameras for various automated tasks, such as classification of moving object, tracking moving objects, and event detection in various indoor or outdoor environments. Pixel to pixel subtraction is performed on each frame, followed by a feature-level based foreground segmentation to properly validate the foreground pixels. In this step, for each pixel in the image, a neighborhood of pixels is selected, and the aggregate change in the neighborhood image is used to classify foreground and background pixels. Normalized cross correlation is then applied to the neighborhood of each pixel that was confirmed to be foreground pixel.
