  • Patent number: 11452102
Abstract: The various embodiments provide methods implemented in a multi-RF communication device for managing a victim subscription's de-sense by proactively implementing an RF coexistence management strategy on the victim subscription when an RF coexistence event starts. In various embodiments, a multi-RF communication device may implement an RF coexistence management strategy by determining when an aggressor subscription will de-sense a victim subscription and configuring the victim to anticipate and mitigate de-sense during the aggressor's transmissions. Thus, the various embodiments may provide dramatic improvements to the victim's overall reception performance and overall user experience.

  • Publication number: 20210250775
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) includes a first communication component configured to use a first frequency band, such as ultra-wide band (UWB), and a second communication component configured to use an intermediate frequency (IF) band that overlaps with the UWB band, such as an IF millimeter wave (mmWave) band. The second communication component conducts an IF signal along an internal signal conduction line that may interfere with UWB processing. A processor of the UE is configured to detect an indication of such interference, and, in response to the indication of interference, control the second communication component to adjust a characteristic of the IF band signal to mitigate the interference, such as by reducing its signal strength. The amount by which the IF band signal strength is reduced may be controlled to achieve a desired tradeoff between various performance metrics, such as power consumption and quality of service.

  • Publication number: 20180070320
Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure propose methods for determining power level of one or more transmitters based on a power level of a primary transmitter when the transmitters are located in close proximity of each other. The power levels may be determined such that a combined power of all the transmitters is compliant with regulatory radio frequency (RF) safety requirements. For certain aspects, power level of the lower priority transmitters may be determined utilizing one or more look-up tables. For another aspect, power level of the lower priority transmitters may be calculated using an algorithm based on the power level of the priority transmitter. In aspects, the power level of lower priority transmitters and the time duration for which the transmitters are active may be selected dynamically so that the time averaged power of the transmitters for a defined period of time falls below the RF exposure limit.

  • Patent number: 9223376
Abstract: A method and system for managing electrical current within a portable computing device (“PCD”) includes assigning a priority to two or more communications supported by the PCD. A present level of a power supply for the PCD may be monitored by a communications power (“CP”) manager module. Next, the CP manager module may determine if the two or more communications may be transmitted at the present level of the power supply. If the two or more communications cannot be transmitted at the present level of the power supply, then the CP manager module may determine if a timing of at least one of the communications may be adjusted. The CP manager module may also determine a theoretical power level adjustment for at least one of the communications. The two or more communications may be transmitted with any calculated timing off sets and power level adjustments.

  • Publication number: 20150031326
Abstract: Methods, devices, and systems for a mobile device to execute user experience software that dynamically determines operating policies that are suited for managing resources, such as transceivers, processors, and other units within the mobile device. In an aspect, a processor executing the user experience software may monitor for activity information that indicates a user's interactions with the mobile device. Based on the activity information, a processor executing the user experience software may match a circumstance defined by the activity information with a stored activity profile. The activity profile may include information indicating aggregated resource usage associated with the matched circumstance. A processor executing the user experience software may implement an operating policy based on the activity profile that manages how the mobile device utilizes resources.

  • Patent number: 8484496
Abstract: A method and system for reducing thermal load by monitoring temperatures within a portable computing device and, based on those temperatures, controlling a battery charge function are disclosed. The method includes monitoring a power management integrated circuit (“PMIC”) to determine if it is generating excess thermal energy that is contributory to an elevated temperature in a physically proximate application specific integrated circuit (“ASIC”). If so, and if the excess thermal energy is attributable to an ongoing battery recharge operation executed by the PMIC, a thermal policy manager module may execute a thermal mitigation technique algorithm to override the PMIC battery recharge function. One exemplary thermal mitigation technique may include a reduction of current sent to the battery, thus slowing the charge cycle and reducing the generation of excess thermal energy.

  • Patent number: 7558226
Abstract: A Wireless Communication Device (WCD) inter-operates with a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) communication system. The WCD operates in an idle mode wherein the WCD transitions between a sleep state to conserve power and an awake state to receive one or more paging signals. The WCD attempts to reacquire a first pilot signal associated with a first paging signal that was previously being demodulated, and a second pilot signal that was previously being tracked. The WCD performs a handoff from the first paging signal to a second paging signal associated with the second pilot signal when the attempt to reacquire the first pilot signal fails and the attempt to reacquire the second pilot signal is successful.

  • Publication number: 20060281486
Abstract: Techniques for operating two receivers to receive data and paging from two systems are described. A primary receiver is associated with better performance than a secondary receiver under poor RF conditions. The two receivers may be operated in either a hybrid mode in which the primary receiver is used to receive paging or a simultaneous mode in which the second receiver is used to receive paging. One of the modes may be selected for use based on RF conditions, received power, demodulation metrics, and/or other criteria. In one design, a mode is selected based on the received power and one or more thresholds. In another design, the hybrid mode is selected for poor RF conditions and, for good RF conditions, the hybrid or simultaneous mode is selected based on received power.
