  • Patent number: 7678451
Abstract: Laser light absorbing additive comprising particles that contain at least a first polymer with a first functional group and 0-95 wt. % of an absorber, the weight percentage relating to the total of the first polymer and the absorber and the first polymer being bound in at least a part of the surface of the particles by means of the first functional group to a second functional group, which is bound to a second polymer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 6, 2003
Date of Patent: March 16, 2010
    Assignee: Merck Patent GmbH
Inventors: Franciscus W. M. Gelissen, Franciscus G. H. Van Duijnhoven
  • Patent number: 7674845
Abstract: Laser writable composition comprising a polymeric laser light absorber dispersed in a matrix polymer, the absorber comprising carbonizing particles that comprise a core and a shell, the core comprising a carbonizing polymer having a first functional group, and the shell, comprising a compatibilizing polymer having a second functional group that can react with the first functional group of the carbonizing polymer, further comprising a reflector.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 4, 2003
Date of Patent: March 9, 2010
Inventors: Franciscus G. H. Van Duijnhoven, Franciscus W. M. Gelissen
  • Patent number: 6673423
Abstract: The invention relates to an information-carrying molded part containing one or more plastic layers, at least one of which bears an informative representation. A ‘molded part’ is understood to be in particular a card such as ‘smart cards’, key cards, identification cards, telephone cards, credit cards or bank cards. According to the invention at least one of the plastic layers herein is made from a block-copolyester consisting of soft blocks of a flexible polymer and hard polyester blocks of repeating units of at least one alkylene glycol and at least one aromatic dicarboxylic acid or an ester thereof. The block-copolyether layer can very well be provided with an informative representation with the aid of laser writing and for example sublimation printing. The information-carrying molded part according to the invention also has a good stiffness combined with a good flexibility and a good resistance to breaking and tearing, good adhesion to for example polycarbonate.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 8, 2002
Date of Patent: January 6, 2004
    Assignee: DSM N.V.
Inventors: Saskia I. Kranenburg-Van Dijk, Franciscus W.M. Gelissen, Markus J.H. Bulters, Christiaan Schröder

  • Patent number: 6270896
Abstract: An elastic fiber of a mixture containing a copolyether ester or a copolyester ester and a chemically crosslinked rubber, which fiber has a permanent elongation after 100% stretching of at most 9% and an elongation at break of at least 450% and a process for producing an elastic fiber comprising the melt spinning of a mixture of a copolyether ester or a copolyester ester and a rubber to form a fiber, in which the rubber is completely or almost completely crosslinked at the moment the fiber is formed, and are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5292459
Abstract: This invention is a process for the production of a continuous running length of a thermosetting polymer by a continuously extruding a continuous running length of a sheath of a film forming fiber from a die to form a hollow object; b) continuously injecting the monomer of the thermosetting polymer into the hollow of the sheath at or immediately below the plane of the die opening; c) stretching the sheath containing the monomer; and d) polymerizing the monomer to make the continuous running length of fiber of thermosetting polymer.
