  • Patent number: 7040261
Abstract: The invention relates to a combustion driven working tool having a combustion chamber (2), a piston (8) guided in a cylinder (5), an ignition system for igniting a fuel supplied to the combustion chamber (2) for driving the piston (8) and a fan (7) at least for ventilating the combustion chamber (2). The running time and/or the speed of the fan (7) can be set as a factor of a measured temperature to realize a combustion driven working tool where an optimal ignition behavior can be set under changing working conditions, in particular under conditions of changing external temperature. A combustion chamber temperature is measured by a first temperature sensor (3) arranged on the combustion chamber (2) and supplied to a control unit (9), which calculates the cooling time and/or the speed for the fan (7) as a factor of the measured combustion chamber temperature and supplies these values to the motor (4).

  • Patent number: 4867365
Abstract: An explosive powder charge operated fastening element setting device includes a housing having a firing direction with a guidance tube located within an outlet tube in the housing. The guidance tube and outlet tube are displaceable in the firing direction within the housing. A piston for driving a fastening element is displaceable in the firing direction within the guidance tube so that it can be returned to the firing position. A spring clip mounted in the outlet tube transmits a pulling motion on the outlet tube to the guidance tube while the piston is held in the housing against similar movement. During the pulling motion, a spring clip with a pair of legs extending transversely of the firing direction co-acts with shoulders projecting outwardly from the guidance tube at its forward end for placing the piston in the firing position toward the rearward end of the guidance tube.

  • Patent number: 4708061
Abstract: An explosive powder charge operated tool for driving fastening elements into a receiving material has a locking member supported in the housing for effecting the return movement of the driving member located within the barrel. The locking member has a radially inwardly directed nose located in the path of an annular shoulder on the driving member. A retaining member with a support shoulder holds the locking member in position within the housing. The retaining member and shoulder are rotatable about the housing for aligning an aperture in the shoulder with the locking member so that the locking member can be removed without the use of any auxiliary tools.

  • Patent number: 4406079
Abstract: A magazine for caseless propellant charges, such as used in a fastening element setting device, consists of an elongated strip-like member. Cut-outs are provided in the strip-like member and a caseless charge holder is secured in each cut-out by webs. A caseless charge and the holder are displaced out of a cut-out when a sufficient force is directed against the holder to separate the webs from the strip-like member.

  • Patent number: 4382533
Abstract: An explosive powder operated setting device uses the propellant gases from an ignited explosive powder charge for driving a piston which, in turn, propels a fastening element from the device into a receiving material. The device includes a housing, a barrel mounted in the housing with the piston displaceably mounted in the barrel. A tubular-shaped slide valve is rotatably mounted in the rear portion of the barrel behind the piston. The front end of the slide valve combines with the barrel in forming a space in which the propellant gases contact the piston and drive it through the barrel. The rear end of the slide valve forms a part of the combustion chamber within the device. At its front end, the slide valve is frusto-conically shaped and forms a seal with a correspondingly shaped surface in the barrel. An exhaust duct section extends through the barrel and is in communication with another exhaust duct section in the housing.

  • Patent number: 4368588
Abstract: A setting device arranged to use caseless propellent charges for driving fastening elements, such as bolts, nails and the like, into a hard receiving material includes a casing containing an axially slidable barrel forming a feed element at its rearward end. A counterpressure member is slidably movably supported within the casing and in combination with the end face of the feed element forms a combustion chamber for the caseless propellent charges. When the feed element is displaced rearwardly and forms a part of the combustion chamber, a ring located within the housing encircles its outside surface. The ring has a radially outer frusto-conical surface in contact with a complementary frusto-conical surface on the housing. When a caseless propellent charge is fired, propellent gases contact the ring and displace it along the frusto-conical surface on the casing causing it to be forced into sealing contact with the outside surface of the feed element.
