  • Patent number: 7667786
Abstract: Backlight with which the uniformity of brightness within a display area of a concavely curved liquid crystal display device is improved while fulfilling the demand for slimmer liquid-crystal display devices, as well as curved liquid-crystal display device including such a backlight. The shape of a frame, an optical sheet, and a scattering plate constituting the backlight unit is the same concavely curved shape as that of the concavely curved panel; and the liquid-crystal panel, the optical sheet, and cold-cathode luminescent lamps are arranged such that the concavely curved panel, the surface of a frame constituting the backlight unit that faces the concavely curved panel, an optical sheet surface, and a surface including the tube center axes of a plurality of cold-cathode luminescent lamps are parallel to each other.

  • Patent number: 7609355
Abstract: Liquid-crystal display device with a concavely curved panel in which a reflective plate is installed with which a uniform brightness of the screen of the liquid-crystal device with curved screen can be maintained and brightness non-uniformities can be remedied, without making the outer shape of the liquid-crystal display device large. In a liquid-crystal display device having a structure in which a concavely curved panel is held by spacers having a curved shape that are installed on a backlight unit, a reflective plate or reflective sheet is attached to all those inner walls formed by an inner space enclosed by the concavely curved panel, the spacers and the backlight unit that are formed by components that are installed between the curved panel and the backlight unit and that are formed by components that are not transmissive to light that is emitted from the light source.

  • Patent number: 7586580
Abstract: Curved-panel liquid crystal display and method of its manufacture are realized without necessitating drastic changes to the display structure or to the steps in its manufacture, and without requiring new materials or manufacturing technology. The back side of a liquid crystal panel is set on first concavely curved spacers that support two opposing edges of the panel back side. Second concavely curved spacers are set on the front side of the two opposing panel edges. Third spacers of uniform height are disposed on the panel back side to support it along the remaining two edges. The second spacers are then pressed to pressure the panel from the front side against the first spacers, wherein the panel is clamped between the first and second spacers.

  • Patent number: 7525610
Abstract: A liquid-crystal display device includes a liquid-crystal display panel having a liquid-crystal layer sandwiched between a pair of substrates, and a backlight unit provided on a surface opposite to a display surface of the liquid-crystal display panel. The backlight unit has an accommodator capable of having at least one optical sheet arranged therein and having a sidewall having a projection at a periphery thereof. The optical sheet has a hole into which the projection is inserted, the hole formed in the optical sheet having a form that is the same as the top plan form of the tip of the projection, the hole being formed in the optical sheet so that a certain rotation angle is established between the form of the hole and a top plan form of the tip of the projection in a state in which the optical sheet is accommodated in the accommodator.

  • Patent number: 7295260
Abstract: Optical sheets can be fixed easily and positively in a liquid-crystal display device having a liquid-crystal display panel in which a liquid-crystal layer sandwiched between a pair of substrates and a lighting unit provided on a surface opposite to a display surface of the liquid-crystal display panel. For this purpose, a projection is provided on a sidewall of an accommodator, and the projection is inserted into a hole provided in optical sheets arranged within the accommodator, thereby fixing the optical sheets in the accommodator. The length along a certain straight line of a top plan form of a tip of the projection is longer than the length along the certain straight line of the hole formed in the optical sheets, thus preventing the optical sheets from falling out of the accommodator.
