  • Publication number: 20140198775
Abstract: A communication system is provided that includes a controller providing a map of information to enable communication with a plurality of nodes. The information includes identification of two separate time slots, one for random access requests when a node initially contacts a controller and another for exclusively assigned access to transmit messages. The map can further provide information to enable identification of the nodes and assign transmission frequencies.

  • Patent number: 8559404
Abstract: A communication system is provided that enables a node to be identified by a controller. To establish a communication link from the node an alignment signal is received from the controller. Upon receiving the controller alignment information, the node sends a response including information the node randomly generated. The controller then responds by sending back at least a portion of the information the node randomly generated indicating that the node has been recognized by the controller.

  • Patent number: 8086240
Abstract: A data communication system wherein four independent frequencies provide for transmissions between a communication controller and at least one node including a first node. The four independent frequencies include: an aligning signal sent on a first frequency, a request signal in a slot allocated to a first node for transmitting reserved request sent on a second frequency, a authorization signal sent on a third frequency and data packets sent over a fourth frequency. In addition, data packets sent over the data communication system can include information related to a count value and termination indication information for determining whether the message has been completely received.

  • Patent number: 7962144
Abstract: A communication system is provided for communication between network nodes and a communication controller. In the network, a reservation request is transmitted from a node to the communication controller in an assigned timeslot. In response the controller provides a grant of permission to the requesting node to transmit packet data containing a message. The timeslot assigned to the requesting node is one of a series of timeslots occurring repeatedly on a separate frequency. The timeslots will be continuously available to receive requests from nodes irrespective of transmission of data from one node to the controller, or transmission of a grant from the controller to a node.

  • Patent number: 7792492
Abstract: A communication system with at least one controller and a plurality of nodes provides a procedure to enable the controller to connect and send messages to individual nodes to establish and maintain a communication link. The controller further receives an indication from the node when termination of receipt of a message from the controller by the node has occurred. The controller transmits connection information to a node to establish a communication path over which the controller can transmit a message to the node when the controller has information to send. A communication message can be sent by the controller, for example, when a node wanders into its control area to enable a communication link to be established.

  • Patent number: 7787883
Abstract: A communication system is provided for communication between network nodes and multiple communication controllers. The communication method provides for request timeslot management, assigning request timeslots to individual nodes. In the network, when an individual node has data to transmit, the node transmits a request signal to a communication controller over an assigned timeslot. For a first node in the network area of a first controller communicating with a second node in the network area of a second communication controller, data is relayed between the first and second communication controllers to enable communication between the first and second nodes. Acknowledgement back that communication is successful is made by a node to a controller indicating a grant was successfully received by the node.

  • Patent number: 7738439
Abstract: A communication system is provided for communication between network nodes and a communication controller that provides for request timeslot management. In the network, when an individual node has data to transmit, the node transmits a request signal to the communication controller over an assigned timeslot. The timeslots are assigned to individual ones of the nodes, and the timeslots assigned recur in a repeating fashion. If a timeslot is unused for a predetermined period of time, such as when a node is turned off or simply has no data to transmit, the timeslot is either eliminated or reassigned. Eliminated timeslots reduce unnecessary time delay before request timeslots recur.

  • Patent number: 7668511
Abstract: A network communication system is provided for communication between network nodes, including individual nodes and a communication controller. In the network, signals are transmitted from the communication controller to identify a slot of a frame in which individual nodes may transmit a request to transmit data. When a first individual node has data to transmit, the first node transmits a request signal to the controller in its identified slot, the request including randomly generated information (RGI) for identification of the node. In response to the request signal, the controller transmits a grant signal along with the RGI back to the first node to allow the first node to identify the grant.

  • Patent number: 7664508
Abstract: A communication system is provided for communication between network nodes and a communication controller. In the network, a request signal is transmitted from a node to the communication controller in one of two separate timeslots to enable transmission of a signal from the individual node. A first one of the reservation timeslots provides for random access requests that can be made by multiple ones of the nodes. A second one of the timeslots is assigned exclusively to the one node. The first random access request timeslot can be used to carry requests for assignment of an exclusive node, while the second exclusively assigned reservation request timeslot can be provided to carry requests to transmit packets containing alphanumeric data.

  • Patent number: 7570954
Abstract: A communication system is provided for communication between network nodes and a communication controller. In the network, a request signal is transmitted from a first node to the communication controller when the first node has a packet data message to transmit. The communication controller then acknowledges the request, and the first node transmits its data message in response. The communication controller further transmits a clocking signal allowing synchronization of the node signals with the controller signals. The clocking signal, request, acknowledgement and data message can all be provided on different frequencies, allowing simultaneous transmission of these signals for efficient operation.

  • Patent number: 7555267
Abstract: A network node in a communication system makes two reservation requests to a controller node in order for the network node to obtain resources from the controller to transmit data. In the network, downstream signals are transmitted from the controller to identify a first slot in which nodes may transmit random access requests to the controller. When a first node has data to transmit, the first node transmits a random access request signal to the controller in the first slot. The controller then transmits a downstream signal assigning a second slot for the first node to transmit a reserve request signal. In response the first node transmits a reserve request signal in the second slot. The controller then transmits a downstream signal which allocates resources to the first node to transmit its data.

  • Patent number: 7212825
Abstract: A network communication system is provided for communication between network nodes, including individual nodes and a central control station node. In the network, signals are transmitted from the central control node to identify specific timeslots in which individual nodes may transmit a request signal to the central control node. When a first individual node has data to transmit, the first individual node transmits a request signal to the central control node in its identified timeslot, the request including randomly generated information for identification of the node. In response to the request signal, the central control node transmits a grant signal along with the randomly generated information back to the first node to allow the first node to identify the grant.

  • Patent number: 7209748
Abstract: A network communication system is provided for communication between network nodes, including individual nodes and a central control station node. In the network, signals are transmitted from the central control node to identify one or more frequencies that the node may transmit. When a first individual node has data to transmit, the first individual node transmits a request signal to the central control node over one or more of its assigned frequencies. In response to the request signal, the central control node transmits a grant signal assigning one or more frequencies to allow the first node to transmit its data.
