  • Patent number: 7008151
Abstract: A power driver includes a motor and a spindle having a distal end thereof opposite the motor. The distal end has an axial bore formed therein. A gear assembly is disposed operatively between the motor and the spindle so that the motor rotationally drives the spindle through the gear assembly. A grip is mounted in the spindle in communication with the axial bore. A driver is mounted about the spindle in operative communication with the grip so that activation of the driver in a closing direction moves the grip radially toward the axis and activation of the driver in an opening direction moves the grip radially away from the axis.

  • Publication number: 20020163140
Abstract: A chuck for use with a power driver includes a generally cylindrical body, a plurality of jaws and a driving disk axially moveably disposed about the body in driving engagement with the jaws so that axial movement of the driving disk with respect to the body moves the jaws toward or away from the chuck body axis. The driving disk defines a threaded outer circumferential surface that engages a threaded inner circumferential surface of a generally cylindrical sleeve so that relative rotation between the sleeve and driving disk axially moves the driving disk with respect to the body. The driving disk defines a plurality of cylindrical slots extending at least partially radially therethrough. Each jaw includes a portion thereof that is shaped cooperatively with respect to the cylindrical slot and that is received thereby so that the jaw is axially fixed, and radially slidable with respect to the driving disk.

  • Patent number: 6402160
Abstract: A chuck includes a generally cylindrical body, a plurality of jaws and a driving disk. A bearing includes a first race, a second race and a plurality of bearing elements disposed between the first race and the second race. The first race defines a plurality of recesses therein. One of the second race and the bearing elements is disposed in communication with the first race so that, when the jaws close onto a tool and the first race and the second race rotate relative to each other, the one of the second race and the bearing elements engages successive recesses.

  • Patent number: 6398226
Abstract: A chuck includes a generally elongated body having a tail section configured to rotate with the drive shaft and a nose section having an axial bore formed therein. A plurality of jaws are movably disposed with respect to the body to and away from the axial bore. A collar in axially driving engagement with the jaws is axially movably disposed with respect to the body so that movement in a first axial direction drives the jaws toward the axis and movement in the opposite direction moves the jaws away from the axis. The collar is configured to receive at least one of the body and a shaft and defines a first surface that faces a second surface defined by the body or the shaft when the same is received by the collar. The first surface is tapered in the axial direction from a first end to a second end of the fist surface so that a first radial distance between the second surface and the first end is less than a second radial distance between the second surface and the second end.

  • Patent number: 5997225
Abstract: A rotary power tool, such as a router, includes an actuating device engaged with a chuck device to move the chuck device between its gripping and release positions. The actuating device includes a lever member that extends axially relative to a casing of the power tool within an inner circumference of a base member. This lever member is movable relative to the casing and is engaged with the chuck so that movement of the lever is imparted to the chuck device causing the chuck device to move axially between its gripping and release positions.

  • Patent number: 5992538
Abstract: A portable impact tool driver is removably attachable to a drive spindle or shaft of a conventional power tool. The impact tool driver has a body member with a drive shaft configured with the body member so as to be rotationally driven thereby. A hammer member is rotationally coupled to the drive shaft and is rotationally driven by the drive shaft. The hammer member is also axially movable along the drive shaft. The hammer has a first impact face configured thereon with at least two impact drivers defined on the impact face. A coupling drive mechanism is disposed between the drive shaft and the hammer member and imparts a rotational and longitudinal movement to the hammer member. An anvil member has a second impact face opposite the first impact face with an impact receiver configured thereon for periodic impacting engagement with the impacted drivers.

  • Patent number: 5908076
Abstract: An impact tool driver is provided and configured for removable attachment to a drive spindle of a power tool, for example a conventional drill. A body member is removably attached to the drive spindle and includes a first impact member containing a number of radially spaced impact lugs defined thereon. Second impact member includes a number of radially spaced impact lugs in engaging and opposing contact with the impact lugs defined on the first impact member. A drive member is connected to the second impact member and is rotational mounted on the body member. The drive member includes a device for connecting a tool or working device thereto. Rotational drive of the body member and the first impact member is imparted to the second impact member and drive member through rotational impacting engagement of the impact lugs.

  • Patent number: 5153936
Abstract: A data processing system stores and displays digital images, and includes a workstation having a document input scanner for digitizing document images at a first resolution, an image display unit for displaying digitized document images at a second resolution which is less than the first resolution and a printer for printing digitized document images at a third resolution greater than the second resolution. The system reduces communications traffic and assures fast access time on the network since the bulk of the traffic will utilize the smaller compressed data records required for the second resolution. However, these improvements in communication traffic and access time do not sacrifice the availability of high resolution compressed data records occasionally needed for printing and other high resolution operations.
