Patent number: 5800427Abstract: The present invention is a device and method for making electro-surgical devices, such as electro-surgical blades, that have a thin coating of non-stick material with a narrow continuous gap, or stretch of opening, in the coating, exposing the metal surface along an edge. This opening has a shape that tends to prevent it being clogged by charred tissue in use. The present invention includes a method of manufacturing the devices that has fewer steps than the prior art, and a better way of forming an opening in the electrically insulating non-stick coating to electrically expose the metal beneath.Type: GrantFiled: December 26, 1996Date of Patent: September 1, 1998Inventor: Gene Zamba

Patent number: 5163937Abstract: A waterproof body for an electric cautery containing cautery parts, comprising a cautery tip assembly, a first hollow half body with a button hole in its side and a receptacle in one end so as to receive the cautery tip assembly, a second hollow half body with a receptacle in on end to receive the cautery tip assembly, a waterproof flexible membrane fastened to the inside of the first half body so as to seal the button hole in a waterproof manner, and an electrical switch button fastened in the button hole of the first half body. The first and second half bodies are joined together in a waterproof manner by ultrasonic welding. The electrical switch button slides in an axial manner relative to the body.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 1990Date of Patent: November 17, 1992Assignee: Transtech Scientific, Inc.Inventor: Gene Zamba

Patent number: 4955371Abstract: A disposable device for dispensing an aerosol spray medicament to the lungs of a patient from a stanardized aerosol dispenser activated automatically by the inhaling of the user. The device has only one moving part, and no power requirements. The device may be used alone or within a respirator, by asthmatics, pulmonary cancer patients, and others. The device comprises a body having an outwardly extending nozzle, a receptacle formed within the body for receiving the dispenser, and an activator positioned within the body being mechanically interactive with the inhalation by the patient. Vents are formed in the body for carbureting air into the nozzle. A fixator is provided for detachably affixing the dispenser in position within the receptacle. Specifically, the fixator is a cap that is threadedly connected to the body and has an interior area suitable for accommodating the dispenser. The activator comprises a diaphragm positioned within the body.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1989Date of Patent: September 11, 1990Assignee: Transtech Scientific, Inc.Inventors: Gene Zamba, Stephen C. Glazier

Patent number: 4443935Abstract: A process for making an electrosurgical pencil with rocker switch for holding and controlling a monopolar electrosurgical scalpel blade, wherein the rocker switch pivots on the exterior of the pencil body and is isolated from the interior of the body by a flexible waterproof seal. In the process for manufacturing the electrosurgical pencil, a cable portion having at least a common conductor, first signal conductor, and second signal conductor is selected, clips are attached to each end of the three conductors of the cable portion, and a spring contact and a clip attached to one end of the common conductor are installed in a pencil body portion so that a central portion of the spring contact is held adjacent a switch seat. Clips attached to the first and second signal conductors are then mounted within the body portion beneath opposite ends of the switch seal and spaced apart from the spring contact, and a second body portion is sealed to the first body portion to create a unitary electrosurgical pencil body.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 1982Date of Patent: April 24, 1984Assignee: Trident Surgical CorporationInventors: Gene Zamba, Carl Foltz
